the Dutch have surrendered to the French but the French have never surrendered to the Dutch.

France has only ever lost 1 war, the franco Prussian war.
the idea that the French surrendered to the Germans in WW2 was propaganda spread to entice the British public into being willing to join the war. same with the idea that the polish just got rolled over by the Germans, they actually put up fantastic defense that held for 3 days and forced the Germans to adjust tactics for the rest of the War.

now I am not saying that the French are brave and will fight to the last man. but I am saying that the idea that the French just surrender is wrong and should not be spread.

There are plenty other funnier and more valid reason to make fun of the French. like how everyone in France hates people from Paris including people who live in Paris. or the fact that the language thought internationally as French is not at all what French speakers sound like in real life. imagine you learn English from what is deemed the international standard English school, but what they teach you is Shakespearean English and nothing else and then you start talking to people and they speak modern English. that is what learning French is now
They signed the armistice, but this is not the thread for war stories, it was a simple joke...

sure a podium is nothign compared toa win. but when a podium comes while the car is FAR from a normal sight on the podium it is as sweet as a win.

you think because Lewis has 104 wins that the win he got at Silverstone this year was not one of his highlights? but it was the longest gap between wins in his entire career, so breaking that streak and being the first driver to get a win after the 300th race start made it very special to him.

context matters....

Just pointing out that this one podium isn't the be all and end all of their careers. They've both seen the podium a few times and both been race winners.
But seeing as they raised the team from Last in the standings to 6th, and increased the Prize Money by $55,000 at the same time, it is a pretty good mark on there record and will be a major benefit to the team.

Edit:
That should Read $50,000,000

Indeed, the whole team must be feeling this years high, they’re the second best of the worst.

Yeah, it's the word 'possibly' that is the caveat though. That midfield scrap is getting intense. I think Aston Martin is just a bridge too far away in 5th, but with 4 points I think covering 6th, 7th and 8th, the final run in is going to be frenetic. Alpine has thrown themselves right back into this fight though and have generally been on an upwards trajectory during the second half of the season, so they'll rate their chances.

It would be so much more interesting if points went further down the classification. Having one good result and being best of the rest as a result is somewhat silly.

They deserved their result, they didn't just luck into it so if even just for that they deserve their spot. They didn't everything right this weekend.

I don't mind it as it is. When situations like this arise, it's about which of the lower teams can take the best advantage of it. This time it was Alpine, last year Williams had a couple of good results...

I'm not saying they did not deserve the result. I'm arguing that if you looked years back at the results you'd have a skewed view of the battle for the best of the rest.

I just recognize the scenario where a team that consistently performs at 11th or 12th or 13th the entire season is basically invisible.

I agree there should be points available all the way down the field.

DRS is bullshit. It's a plaster on a wound. Fix the cars - make them smaller, make it easier up overtake/less air displacement.
Don't worry, as soon as the racing gets close again they'll change the rules so that one team can lap the field for the first couple of years.

the muppets can't even keep it on the black stuff with full grip. Imagine turning off some of their downforce and increasing their speed.
Well no, they turn it off. I fully expect Stroll to have a few shunts, but they're top level drivers who should be able to decide what they can or can't do with their car.
