You missed nothing. Definitely the worst race of the year, Max drove like an ace so no issues there, but FIA are showing major cracks with their race directors leaving.
To be fair, the RD only screwed up one call (ignoring the mirror), it was the stewards who lost the plot today.

I was thinking watching the mirror fiasco, why not just send all the cars through the pit lane for a lap and let someone nip out and pick it up.
They have done it for other cases before.

What a schitshow. Building DTS drama for Abu Dhabi again.

I'm sure the consistency of the penalties will be debated. Whatever was dished out today would have been minor post-race penalties before. Was it even communicated before the race that the penalties would increase in severity?

Neither of the Ferraris lifted either btw. Let's see them argue with the telemetry...

"Let's see if McLaren has something to say.

Looking closely at the images and thanks to telemetry, I discovered that the two Ferrari drivers also ignored the double yellow flag.

Leclerc lifted during the first part of the mini-sector and went full force in the rest. Sainz went straight to the limit until braking at Turn 1.

The one who lifted the most was, without a doubt, Verstappen, who released his foot on the accelerator at 100% and even tapped the brake. Lando Norris, quite the opposite: thoroughly."

Sucks for Ocon. Don’t like teams doing this if true…
Sure seems likely that Ocon will be swapped for Doohan...

Jirr the RD yesterday was on a mission

The penalty on Norris was too harsh imo. It killed the race for the win ultimately. I don't think Lando would have caught Max who somehow got a good car for Sunday when that thing was ridcoulisly slow in the Saturday sprint. How is it possible that the RB this year is so fickle that with a few changes it goes from racing a Haas to winning?

LH was done mid way.. hell he does not want to be there. I think he is going to get a rude awakening next year.

Not a terrible race from my perspective. There was at least a lot going on, even if a lot of it was due to external influences.
Lap 1 was chaos, then there was a safety car train for a few laps, then there was a boring 15-20 laps or so.
When Albon's mirror broke loose everything went chaotic again

6/10 race as far as I'm concerned, it was 4/10 before the mirror incident.

that was a terrible race.

too much choas from stewards.

should have been a Safety car taking the grid though the pits top remove the mirror.

the Norris penalty was too harsh. yes he should have gotten a penalty, maybe even a 10second penalty, but a 10 second stop and go was too much. punishment did not fit the crime.

LH's penalty was deserved but again more harsh than it should have been. a 5 second time penalty like LeClerc got earlier this year is what that should have been.
and I also think the 1 place grid drop for Max was not warranted, he was reacting to Alonso in front of him. yes George was compromised, but it was not Max's fault the penalty should have gone to Alonso.

in every single aspect I feel the FIA let the sport down this weekend.

all the results feel sullied.

that being said, I am very happy for Sauber to get some points at least.

I agree, stewarding and race direction were both terrible

My opinion is that context is missing in the application of the penalties and the available penalties don't vary nearly enough.

Imho, the driver penalty points system should be expanded and used for such scenarios where an incident does not prejudice the driver, prejudice another competitor or was a safety issue but it occurred nonetheless.

That way they can be tallied and objectively determined and it affects the driver subsequently rather than during a race. It also allows a more fair right of review. Also, SC's should neutralize the race not provide an opportunity to pit as with red flags shouldn't be an opportunity to change the car.

max is a legend

was chatting to a buddy and was like max got pole but he will get chowed by merc and mclarens cos after sprint his car was slow

he said no max not interested in sprint wins ...and he was right
