No shame in admitting you want to join Team Red, Dave
Hi @Icemanbrfc, I missed you last year.
I have a major dilemma as a McLaren Fan I want them to beat Ferrari in the constructor's but as a Lewis Fan I want him to win the Drivers Championship.
Can I be an honorary Ferrari Suporter for a year but still Support McLaren ?
I think I may likely end up suffering from F1 Schizophrenia before the season end. :)

Haha you and me both. Never though I’d want Ferrari to win this badly. I need to out some cash on Lewis I think.

I'll make an exception this season... Everybody welcome to join Team Red. Now bow down to me peasants

Indeed. I believe I quoted it too so it’s around even if he deletes his post

Gentlemen, I’m no F1 expert, so can anyone help me out here.

When last did a driver win the drivers championship, with the 3rd / 4th slowest car.

Excluding last season 2024.

Can’t think when last it happened. Certainly not last year. It probably did happen at some point though. Good question you raise.

Michael Schumacher's 1995 season with Benetton

Benetton was only inferior to Williams that year, so 2nd best car on the grid. But they also beat Williams in the constructors.

EDIT: That was a real stuff up of a season for Williams. The FW17 was the fastest car on the grid but coupled with mistakes from Hill (this is the season where he sealed his fate at Williams, regardless of what he done in 1996), the car was also unreliable, Hill losing two wins because of failures.

Button with the Brawn in 2009.
2008 Mclaren was second best to Ferrari and won.
2007 Ferrari was second best to Mclaren and won.
and then yes 1995 Shumi

maybe 1990 or 1989 soemwhere around there, the Prost/Mansel/Sena times where they were changing teams often and williams, ferrari and Mclaren were all competing. I am sure one of those years the third best won a championship
