F1 2026

Yeah, that's a good point. I would imagine that the mechanics that control the aero on the wing will run through some sort of quick release connection to the chassis through which they will connect a new front wing and it's moving aero parts. It could just mean slightly longer pitstops to change a wing while an extra component is reconnected.
Pretty sure there's enough room in the nosecone to house whatever actuators they use and it will just be an electrical connection which they already do anyway.

Accompanied by new renders of how F1 2026 cars are set to look, the sport has issued an update surrounding the language used on track around the cars’ new features.

Previously, ‘Manual Override Mode’ [MOM] was in place for drivers being able to try and instigate an overtake when within one second of the car in front, by deploying more energy to do so.

This has now been replaced by ‘Overtake Mode’, which is the term to be the effective replacement for DRS [Drag Reduction System], the movable rear wing system which had been in place since 2011.

The FIA confirmed in a new announcement that Overtake Mode is “for drivers within one second of a car in front to deploy extra power to instigate an overtake.

“It replaces DRS and aids on track passing, being a strategic tool to be used all in one go or spread over a lap.”

Alongside that comes ‘Boost Mode’, a catch-all term for drivers deploying battery power from the power unit’s Energy Recovery System, which “gives the driver maximum power from the engine and battery at the push of a button, no matter where they are on track.”
I'm guessing the video game drivers are gonna be lit this year. They need a pew-pew button.

Speaking to IOL, Christo Kruger, Public Relations Manager at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, said: "we have a period of three years before we need to actually complete all these upgrades for a Formula One to be hosted at Kyalami. They will be done systematically as and when we don't have the circuit hired out to somebody else, for example."

"Portugal has just been appointed as a host country for Formula One for 2027 and 2028. So they've got a two-year deal with Portugal already.

“So the earliest we could have a race in South Africa would be 2028.”

Yeah... so 2028, or track finished late 2028 for 2029.

Goalposts kept getting shifted down the road, why does that feel like the narrative of the last decade.

problem is one fake site publishes AI slop and others copy it. even legit sites then end up siting it as fact.

if testing rolls around and Merc and ford engines are better than ferrari,Audi and honda engines, we will know.
but right now the expectation is that Merc will be the best engine, wiht an outside chance of ferrari actually being best. personally I have no hope for Ferrari. even if the engine has better performance, they will somehow be missing reliability, or some other thing.

my prediction is Merc engines rule the roost for the next few years. Ford Honda and Audi will slowly catch up, and Ferrari will look like clowns. like always.

I have a feeling Ford is going to cause quite the upset and Audi will be the ones struggling the most, but as you say will catch up over the longer term.

They have plenty of Lambo and Porsche people to leverage as well.

Another one...

If I read this,
The ball is now in the FIA’s court. “The regulations clearly define the maximum compression ratio as well as the method for measuring it, based on static conditions at ambient temperature,” the governing body stated.
I don't see this?
This would be a violation of the technical regulations, which reiterates that the cars must be compliant at all times during a race weekend.
In theory they could take the car at anytime, let it cool down and it would pass the test.

Anyone of the other cars on the grid would then also have "increased" it's compression when it's at operating temperature just like your Citi Golf (or anything else) would.

I think it's just clever engineering.
