Yup. It has been a painful season to be a Williams fan. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for the drivers after a promising 2025 and all the hype around the 2026 car. He still should've just apologized and moved on, though.

Do have to wonder how much longer Vowles will be in the team principal chair. You would think after 3 years in the role that there would be some progress in the team but it seems like they're backsliding.
 
Vowles did himself no favours by asking not to be judged until 2026, arguing that Williams had stopped developing the 2025 car early to focus on the new regulations.

Williams is in the same boat as Aston Martin in a manner of speaking... both teams were late to pre-season testing, which was already a red flag situation, so no wonder things haven't panned out as expected, and hyped about. At least with Aston Martin they have capable people to solve the problems, and you just know that Adrian Newey will deliver, as has been proven at Hungary with a step in the right direction, he's no muppet, so they can only go upwards from here on in.

Williams just seem to be in a dark room at the moment, unfortunately for them, and there's always the possibility for heads to roll. Vowles was counting chickens before they hatch.

Oh, heads will roll, remember, Williams is now owned by a major corporate company, not in cars (before any of you jump, I know, yes, all of them are big corporations in F1)
Somewhere in the team, there is something really fundamentally wrong; Sainz over the Hungarian race with the whole blue flag thing, for instance

They are even worse off, to be frank.

They have the best PU on the grid and committed to developing their car early in 2025.

Aston Martin can at least point to a brand new technical partner in Honda - who have been amateur - and pursuing a couple of radical concepts in the design of the AMR26.

Williams has been here before, when they started losing their way in 2017/2018. After a blistering start to the hybrid era (often the fastest car in terms of raw straightline speed, even faster than the Mercs), they lost direction and just tumbled all the way down to the back of the grid. Vowles and Dorilton worked hard to rebuild their technical department and now they seem to have gone and lost themselves again.
 
I'm a fan of Vowles, and I think he did an amazing job after joining the team, but can understand that investors might be starting to lose faith. The whole weight issue seemed to be due to factory infrastructure problems, and from there everything just snowballed - or at least that's how I see it. I really hope there's still something to salvage from this season.
