F1 - General discussion and 2017

Pirelli has introduced a new range of tyres for the 2018 Formula 1 season, with 'Super Hard' and 'Hyper Soft' joining the collection - taking the total of nine.

The tyres were revealed at the Yas Marina paddock earlier today, with Pirelli's Mario Isola stating that all the tyres are one step softer, which makes these tyres 'fastest' in the F1 history.

The super hard will be orange in colour, with the hard changing to ice blue, while the hyper soft will be pink as revealed earlier - the name was chosen from over 30,000 votes on the social media.

The wet tyres will also be blue in colour, but it is expected to be brighter than the hard compound's ice blue, while intermediate will keep its green colour.

"Compared to this year, when the tyres grew by 25% to fit a brand-new generation of cars, the changes for next year are less far-reaching," said Isola.

"However, we’re pleased to present some important innovations with softer and faster compounds across the range: including the new hypersoft.

"We realised that, under the unique circumstances of this year, some of our 2017 compounds were perhaps conservative: the tyres we have created for 2018 addresses this, in line with the objective of having around two pit stops at most races.

"However, the fundamental design concept of the tyres hasn’t changed next year, preserving the attributes that all drivers have appreciated this year and allowing them to push hard from the start to the finish of each stint.

"The new range consists of faster tyres that should lead to even harder and more spectacular racing in 2018," he added, addressing the media in Abu Dhabi and he joined in by F1 leaders Sean Bratches and Chase Carey.

The new tyres will make its official track debut in the two-day test at Yas Marina, following the conclusion of the 2017 season, before it is introduced during the 2018 F1 testing in Febraury.

The move to bring in more tyres is believed to make races more interesting in 2018, giving teams and drivers the options for more varied strategy choices and making tyres more suitable to the different circuits.

This is F1 - it is all plug and play now.
Put on the Tyre of your choice.
Drive until you find some carbon fiber shards then insert in passing.
Tyre will automatically deflate until it is MicroSoft.
However, hardware failure is possible as MicroSoft Tyres tend to add additional Load to the Core.
 
Another good F2 race.
The final F2 race of the season tomorrow should be an even better one as the constructors championship is still wide open.

Just watched the youngster that Alonso sponsors in the eSports WC win his race in a Macca. The only way Macca was ever going to win this year lol. Alonso was there watching and cheering him on haha. Was fun to watch actually - especially the odd glitch :p

Glad to know I am not the only one enjoying this.
I started watching out of curiosity, expecting a laugh, but it is like watching a real race and these kids are good.

I kept asking myself... why is it so entertaining? It really is lol. I'd watch it again. eSports is actually not bad - if they can get the right involvement from the background directorship side, it could go places. It's competitive and entertaining.
Good to see Alonso getting involved hehehe. He's great for PR.

I'm a little embarrassed to say I had a glance at the screen at the start and thought I was watching Formula 3 or something then it dawned on me that it was CGI.

I did feel sorry for them being led on to the grid arm in arm with the grid girls.
Their teenage hormones must have been raging and they still had to race :)

HAHAHAHAHA. Was lol'ing at the same thing. That was awkward. My q is - where are the girls? Why aren't there any girl gamers on the grid? Surprising, but maybe racing isn't big on the female side.

you cant help but feel somedays that the teams pick their clear nr 1 driver and then as soon as the car starts running they dial the power ever so slightly down for their nr2

feels especially so with Redbull and Ferrari, max is a new guy and imho not nearly as complete a driver as ricciardo but its very clear redbull makes all the noise for max just because hes young and talented and gives them better publicity.

raikkonen also, hes A class but he always also mysteriously loses performance and as always from the get go it was clesr Ferrari wanted to make all the noise about vettel

anyways thats my tinfoil rant of the day, if you disagree with me please feel free to not respond

I down disagree. On the other hand, perhaps they coach the drivers about the team strategy and the drivers make it look like theyve lost a tenth through error here and there. If youre right then we may see Bottas win the WC in a year or two.
