Hamilton got more points in the 2016 Autosport poll than he did last year when he won the title with three rounds to spare.
London - Formula One team bosses have voted Lewis Hamilton the sport's best driver, despite losing his title to Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, in an annual Autosport magazine poll.

Rosberg, who won his first world championship in a tense Abu Dhabi season-ender last Sunday, was third in the secret vote behind Red Bull's 19-year-old Dutch sensation Max Verstappen. Red Bull's Australian Daniel Ricciardo was fourth.

Hamilton won 10 out of 21 races this season - the first time a driver has won more than seven and not ended up as champion - to Rosberg's nine.

The triple world champion also ended up with 12 pole positions but lost out by five points to Rosberg, who enjoyed greater car reliability and was more consistently on the podium.

Hamilton got more points in the 2016 Autosport poll, which asks bosses to name their top 10 and awards points to each driver according to Formula One's scoring system, than he did last year when he won the title with three rounds to spare.

Seeing as the FIA prize giving ceremony is now sponsored by and, therefore, called the Autosports Awards (http://awards.autosport.com/) I hope we don't end up in the future with a confusing situation where the actual F1 points become subservient to " the Autosport secret vote " and the WDC is awarded on the basis of their popularity vote and not the Points earned on track.

Just another example of rampant commercialisation of sport going to illogical extremes.

It's called maturity.
Just wait till Max has maturity to add to his arsenal, especially seeing as he had the most overtaking manoeuvres during the year at 78.
IIRC that is the second year in a row that he has taken that one.

Williams admits it may allow Mercedes to sign Bottas


Claire Williams has confirmed under-contract driver Valtteri Bottas could be allowed to join Mercedes, provided his current team's 2017 campaign isn't compromised as a result.

Williams' acknowledgement of Mercedes interest - and the possibility of doing a deal - comes on the heels of the German marque clarifying it would not announce a replacement for F1 champion Nico Rosberg until January 3 at earliest.

It also goes against Williams tech chief Pat Symonds' insistence that Bottas is "crucial" to Williams' 2017 plans.

But if they can get Paddy Lowe, Pascal Wehrlein and half priced power units, as part of the deal they may well take a chance on two youngsters and a new team principal. Pat Symonds has not been shy in saying he is ready to retire and with Sir Frank needing to back off for medical reasons Claire would probably take over as chairman.

With close ties to Wolf they could well become the Mercedes B team in the way that Torro Rosso is to Redbull and Haas is to Ferrari.

No buts involved, I think. if Claire Williams is now saying it can happen I think the behind the scenes negotiations must be moving on quite well.

And some more agreement ;)

He wasn't the same after getting smacked on the head, and was even more off the boil the last half of this season. He was already sitting with his feet up subconsciously the second half of the last season.
