Facebook changes your displayed email without you knowing

Should I be concerned? I wouldn't want my primary displayed in any case.

Dear The_Librarian

What is one book you don't have in your library?
Facebook!

Sincerely,
Facebook.

No. It is just another example of FB treating their members like idiots: "We know what is best for you, so just shut up."

Question: Does the method work if you are not using Timeline?

I don't use timeline, yet I want to my friends to be able to see my email address.
With the new @facebook address mails go directly to my facebook messages, which I don't want.
Fortunately the method as described by Lifehacker works, and the @facebook address is no longer active, with my primary email address being the only one showing.

It's up to whether you chose to share it or not. I shared mine with specific privacy to friends only so the fact that fb goes and changes it, does piss me off.

"Anonymous" account user names now also displayed

This is not just an issue of email addresses. Previously when we logged into our FB accounts, most of us had random numbers as our facebook ID in the URL. Facebook, now by linking our new facebook.com email address to name, has automatically allocated EVERYONE a facebook web address www.facebook.com/firstname.lastname

I was quite happy with my random number anonymity. Now anyone who knows my name can assume my facebook email address and send me unsolicited emails. Fantastic, I'm sure we all wanted that, wise Facebook!

I do not want this facebook ID. I wanted to choose my personalised FB ID later, IF I wanted to, WHEN I wanted to.

[EDIT: DEL] Perhaps I am paranoid.[DEL]

I disabled the display of the FB email address by going to my info page and editing contact info (unlike Lifehacker, I do not use timeline). I have tried sending an email to that address EDIT: [DEL] but have not received anything[/DEL].

EDIT: I received the email sent to my hidden Facebook address. So now anyone can send you an email to your FB address if they know your name assume your default FB username.

After logging out of FB, I was unable to go directly to the username-based URL that had displayed while logged in, only displaying the message.

When logged in though, there is a continuous nag bar at the top of the page about the FB email address and changing one's user name.

I hid my new FB email address from my profile, After a few hours, I received an email sent to that address even after hiding it. So if anyone knows your name, and assumes you use the FB allocated username, they can spam you.

Well done FB, you have just taken your privacy policy, wiped your ar** with it, and presented it to us as progress.

Facebook is enabling me to make such good friends. I received a new message in my hidden, unpublished Facebook email inbox. Thanks so much Angel Duncan for taking the time to write such a heartfelt message after taking such trouble and making such algorithmic calculations to deduce what my secret Facebook email address might be. Such an intuitive young lady who could read between the lines of my information-free FB profile:
