Facebook Phone

Oval shaped with curved glass? Boil me in hot oil before that ever happens.

The specs actually don't bother me that much. It's a midrange phone, I'm a midrange kinda guy. The screen is going to be lovely, that's all I care for really.



Parasite approach is right, and Facebook aren't the only ones. Amazon, Samsung..basically everyone in fact is parasitical on Android. Google's situation here is not looking pretty to me.

Well, maybe Google is now getting where they always wanted to be as they are really making money of advertising and they will still do so with all these parasites. Android was always a moat protecting the castle (advertising). So maybe Google is not too bothered. They will still have their own Motorola and Nexus series with their own interpretation of Android which they may decide to add exclusive features to not made available in the standard free OEM version that sits behind the layers added by the parasites. Who knows. Anything is possible. Interesting times ahead, that is for sure. I think Microsoft and BlackBerry are the ones soiling their pants right now, not Google. They are now so out of it it is not funny.
 
The already high mountain Microsoft must climb to get market share just doubled in hight.

Thing is Google are NOT making money when Android gets parasited on by other companies, especially when those companies have competitive advertising revenue models. But ag, it's a tough world out there, I don't think they'll be going out of business any time soon and they're big boys.

This is what makes following tech so interesting ... all the multidimensional chess moves and counter moves. Facebook made a good move and we now wait to see what moves the others come up with.

The way I see it Microsoft's mobile offering is not looking good now. Why would I - or anyone else -even consider a Windows phone now? Or a BlackBerry? With this move Android looks far more attractive as even my Note 2 can get Facebook Home if I wanted it. HTC and Samsung top Android offerings will get it on the 12th.

Microsoft need a miracle now. Can Homer Ballmer do magic?

Both Facebook and Google are the winners here. Facebook doesn’t have to build its own phone or operating system, and Google gets to keep pointing out the fact that customization is something that consumers want, and Apple doesn’t deliver on. The two companies are using each other, and as MG Siegler pointed out, are strange bedfellows.

Facebook Home has finally made the Android/Open vs. iOS/Closed a mainstream issue.

Well the more I think about it, oi, no zuckerberg! Facebook is one of the evils of modern existence.

But that phone is the HTC First WITHOUT Facebook ... a beautiful middle of the range phone with that camera you like.
 
What I would like to see now is a Flipboard version of Android ... doing what Facebook did but with Flipboard. Then we have it all right there in front of us, including Facebook and Twitter. I believe Facebook opened a can of worms here that is going to bring others to the "Let's give Android a new facade with our offerings" party. But Flipboard would we awesome.

This whole push of megapixels on phone cameras is such a red herring imo. You've got a very limited space to work with and all you're doing is cramping sensors to smaller dimensions in order to accommodate for completely pointless additional pixels that you'll never use because phone snaps are not meant to be blown up to professional standard sizes anyway. So you end up with enormous pictures that have zero HDR tolerance and low light sensitivity.

I'd say 4mp is a bit low but just look at the results of those low light shots. Blows away the iPhone5 and all the Samsung phones. Only the 920 can match it.
