Facebook shuts down Friend List Feeds

Facebook will remove its Friend List Feeds in an effort to improve its News Feed platform, TechCrunch reported.

This feature allowed users to view content which only included what their friends were posting, hiding posts from Facebook pages and unfollowed friends.

So we'll get no feeds then? I use Facebook purity. So I won't get anything then :crylaugh:

I was looking at someone I knew from high school's facebook profile. She has over 2000 friends. I thought jeez, how the hell does one deal when there's so much s**t posted on your timeline.

That works very nicely. I am also trying out Mix.com but it isn't quite as clever on the reading of RSS feeds.

so what does this practically mean? i'll see posts from everyone that posts on fb?

You'll see mostly posts from pages you have liked. About 90% of the home feed is from pages that you liked or your friends liked. Without being able to look at the friends list feeds (like acquaintances, family, etc) you will most likely not see any status updates or photos from people you actually want to see because FB decides for you what you should see.

Completely broken system. I hope they never recover.

FB can do whatever they like and I wouldn't even notice. If they disappeared altogether I'd probably be one of the last to realise it. Even though I've had a FB account for a long time now, I'm still trying to figure out why...

Darn. I use friends feeds heavily - I have a feed set up for each group of friends/pages - e.g. Jokes, Birds, Colleagues, etc. Keeps it all under control, makes sure I see more posts in each group (posts don't get lost in a huge newsfeed) and I can choose what topic I'm interested in reading right now.

If they really remove this, Facebook becomes unusable for me. That's what happened when they removed interest lists, but luckily there I could switch to friends lists.

And the reason why they're doing this is because there are no ads or "suggested posts" on friends lists :-(

was friend list feed a specific thing from the normal feed?

i ask because as it seems there is no difference in my feed. but then again i probably may not notice

Yes, you created lists of your friends and you could share with only that group as well as see what only people in that group were sharing without the noise of pages and every other piece of crap Facebook would throw onto the home feed.

This decision has fundamentally broken the usefulness of the site for the actual user. But it's probably a good thing.

so no more fake news from friends, only fake news that facebook wants you to see

I removed it from my devices and haven't logged in for over 24 hours. I can do this. There's nothing to see there.

I also use Purity and even then its a bit of a mind fk.

Worst on Facebook is you are enjoying a stream of info in that oxymoron known as your "timeline" and then you click on a page or link, then press back when you are done, suddenly the stream that you were working on is gone and some new random sht has replaced it.

I don't have that problem. Mine usually ends with 'invite more friends'. So maybe you should delete some....
