Facebook on Wednesday said it will delete beheading videos being shared at the leading social network as it re-evaluates its policy regarding whether such content is acceptable.

The move came as a reversal for Facebook, which had been responding to complaints by refusing to intervene since the clips didn't violate the social network's policy because they were being shared to condemn decapitations.

Facebook had equated sharing of the video at the social network to news organizations that broadcast graphic scenes to bring attention to and rally sentiment against violent acts.

"We will remove instances of these videos that are reported to us while we evaluate our policy and approach to this type of content," Facebook said in an email response to an AFP inquiry.

The turn-about reportedly came after the California-based social network's safety advisory board criticized the decision to leave the gruesome clips up at the website.

The controversy centered on two videos that appeared to have been made in Mexico, and weapons used to behead victims included a chain saw and a knife, according to online reports.

Darn!! There's one with a chainsaw too?? The one I saw was gruesome enough....guy's head being cut off with a huge blade.

Is it the one with the chainsaw?

Yes. Two guys sitting next to each other, hands cuffed behind their backs and talking to a camera. The one guy gets his head cut off with a chainsaw the other gets his head cut off with a knife.

Eeeeewww!!! That's just plain inhumane dude. Don't these people have feelings or hearts for that matter??:wtf:

It is the Mexican drug cartels, they don't give a toss. If you have a stomach for it just Google their escapades. They routinely dismember and behead rivals and narcs, strewing their limbs, heads and headless bodies across the street.

This makes sense to take off though. While I agree anyone can google thse videos and check them, there are young kids who regularly use facebook, and I think it's better that this content is not available...

I have no idea why anyone would want to view these kind of videos

It is no different to people slowing down to have a good look at an accident scene.

I agree with you. It's also very important to know what goes on in the rest of the world you know.....even if is war and terrorism.

What I never understood about that video, is just how calm those two guys were before their imminent, and gruesome, deaths...

They've probably been preparing themselves for hours....who knows....they were probably locked up for days. Lotta time to make peace with the inevitable.

It's a scary thought though.....knowing that within a few minutes you will be decapitated.....violently. No!! in the worst possible manner. How does one prepare himself for something as sinister as that??:wtf:

They know they'll just respawn at their homebase.

Yeah, I've seen quite a few of those videos, and the victims are quite often like those guys; most seem to accept their fate with that same kind of chatty equanimity. And the chatty, laid-back confessions they make before they get snuffed seem to be a *motif* of these narco vids as well.

I've also tried to figure it out, and I guess it's just a whole bunch of factors that make them like that in the face of death. A lot of them are completely high on their own supply when they get captured. They're generally just poor, low-level street soldiers who are being made an example of, and they don't have much to lose; they've lived by the sword for their bosses for low pay and some drugs, and now they're going to die by the sword -- and have probably done the same thing to others (although I saw one where a high-level cartel assassin was killed, and he was cool as ice until the very last second, when he got a bit shaky). After a life of killing people and running drugs, they knew this day would likely come, and it's maybe something of a relief to be released from their stress. It's maybe a cultural thing; human sacrifice was a part of their ancestors' culture, so it maybe creates a bit more, I don't know, acceptance in both parties. A lot of the stuff these guys do reminds me of Aztec ritual sacrifice. A Latin guy told me it's also the whole Dia de los Muertos culture; they don't see death like other people do. It's maybe also just a culture-related machismo thing. Or maybe they really think they'll respawn at their homebase.

Yeah, so I've also tried to figure out where their heads are at before they get chopped off, and I've never been able to figure it out. Just a bunch of factors, I guess.
