Ok so on Saturday I decided to go into the telkom shop at Bayside Mall, to upgrade my Do2 package to a 4mb line.

Women said it will be done by Monday, and they will give me a call when it is done.

Got home and re-sync'd and it was sitting at 1024kb down and 512up, from there it was bouncing up and down, dropping the line, dropping the ISP connection etc, went up to 1880kb down but it is still fluctuating the whole time. At times I cant even connect to my router (Trusty telkom Mega105WR  )

I phoned them yesterday and according to them I am sync'd at full 4mb on their side and they said I must do the speed test, which I did about 20 times...

Now and then it will hit 100/110kbps download, but normally A LOT slower.

Downloading from other sites, I get like 2kbps which drops and drops to the point its 0bytes per second and then times out.

So now what is my next step? Does it look like my router is mental? (I could swing one from work for the night to test)

Do I phone them again and report a line fault?

Should my line support full 4mb seen that they say I am sync'd at 4mb on their side? (Sunningdale, Cape Town)

A colleague mentioned that an IS line was having problems and was somehow affecting the SAIX lines as well, could I maybe be feeling the full extent of that?

Any help is welcome.

Thanks

If the problem persists over a period of more than a day or so, it's probably your line sync.
(Check the line sync stats on your router to confirm.)

And, yes, start with logging a fault so that you cannot be charged for the upgrade if it eventually turns out that the line quality and/or Telkom exchange in your suburb couldn't support a faster service.

PS: Telkom can downscale your line sync to either 3Mbps or 2Mbps or 1Mbps upon request. Try that and see if it solves your problem...

Ok so I phoned telkom, had dropping issues all the way down to 1mb which was stable, so now I am sitting on 1mb, even tho a guy a few blocks away from me has full 4mb.

I logged a fault anyways to see if they can investigate it further, 10mins later I got 2 sms's 1 saying I have logged a fault, the other saying my fault has been resolved, and its still synced at 1mb, so looks like I gotta call them again.

I'll post router stats when I get home.

Just remember that Telkom sells a 1mg service that can go upto 4mb. They do not gurantee the 4mb service but will still charge for it even if you only get 1mb. Good luck with this.
