At the end of last month, I upgraded my Dobroadband 1 linespeed to 4mb(line only, not the package). I just recieved a bill from telkom for a cancelation fee of R1400. It seems that "great" person that assisted me at 10219, cancelled my telkom account with them(that includes the line, acc, and closer) and recreated it on exactly the same phone number, leaving me to pay a cancelation fee. Im still baffled exactly why this was done, but I am currentling battleing with telkom to have this resolved.

I just thought id warn other ppl considering upgrading in the near future, to watch out for this and find out exactly what the sales representative is in fact peforming, in terms of your account when upgrading.

Happy dsl'ing ;)

If I were you I'd try to sort out the issue at the local Telkom store. The people at the call center are often idiots, as you've just experienced.

yep had a similar thing when I changed my broadband line from webafrica back to telkom (cause I was going to mweb)
They charged me a installation charge. R500 +-
I phoned them and explained to them that I have had my line for months, they adjusted my bill immediatly.
Ok bit different and I suppose I was lucky to get such good service.

Why is there a cancellation fee on a land line?

It's not a cancellation fee on the landline; the op has/had a DoBroadband contract with them, which the Telkom assistant cancelled when doing the upgrade.

OP, next time, talk to them as if they're 6-years old :D

hahaha,
I moved house recently.

I dialed 10219, cancelled the line at house1 (old) and requested a line for house2 (new).

So telkom sends the techy to my old house - to install the new line.
:-|

Telkom - where each person is called either "Filamon", Gatiep" or "Van der Merwe".

I am sure they will fix it for you, warranted I get some bad errors but they pretty good at fixing account stuff in the end... The very very end.

Thats why I do everything at the telkom direct store that has to do with accounts.

Signed up for their "free 3 month trial"
Got a bill for dsl line and subscription to them for the first month.
According to the telkom store, il see it for everymonth I have the account and I gotta go to the store and dispute it.
Fun for 2 more months. Woo hoo

Well, I am moving house also end of Oct, phoned telkom, told them to cancel the line end of Oct at current, and do installation at new, 2 days later my internet isnt working, they cancelled the line, phoned them, asked WTF? "System fault" they say, they will fix it. 1.5 hrs later, line is working again, 30 min later, telkom phones, they want to know if there is someone at the new house to go and install line ...... what do they not understand about end of Oct???? fun and games.

PS, for reasons like this, is why I will never ever sign a 2 year contract with telkom.

Go to a Telkom direct store to get it resolved.

I had some problems with my one store with an upgrade from 384 to 1Mb, the order kept on getting acknowledge before being actioned and my line was never upgraded. Went to a different store and found out that Telkom has implemented a new system and many of the staff are still using the old system to capture orders! This could have been what happened to you.

First off, Wackyza. You cannot downgrade/upgrade your line speed on a do broadband package. It's a package, i.e. line + gigs + closer option (optional). If you want a line speed upgrade/downgrade (or a change in bandwidth allocation) then you need to downgrade/upgrade your do broadband package.
Your fault for not acqainting yourself with the relevant details. Here's my 'Fair warning to fellow adsl users': read the god damn product details and try and gain some insight into the product you are using.

I don't know if you were rushed or aggravatingly rude with the consultant, but the cancellation fee would have come up during the conversation (if not, barring exceptions in the t&cs, you have a leg to stand on during the appeal process). Somehow, I think you were just another rude pushy idiot, pissed that you were not allowed to do 'what you wanted, when you wanted'.

Secondly, bubbatentoe. Your racist snide comments are not appreciated in our new republic, and neither are they here in this forum. Grow up mate, grow up...

Firsly, I have a dobroadband 1 which I UPGRADED, not DOWNGRADED like you are indicating, due the to the fact that I only need the line upgrade. I already have a 9gb Telkom account on a different bill, hence I didn't need to upgrade the WHOLE package. I was under no circumstance made aware that upgrading the line, required me to upgrade the whole package, that would lead to a cancelation by the sales person in question.

I dont understand, for what reason you would assume, that I would need to be rude to a sales person assisting me in a product upgrade of service, that I have made use of and have been happy with for the past 10 years.

It seems in YOUR republic, that I am also a citizen like YOU, freedom of speach is not within MY rights, or atleast that is what you are trying to insinuate. Clearly you, are either a telkom employee or someone that had a really bad day, or both even and needed an outlet.

The point of this thread was to help other people avoid the same situation. I guess, you somehow read something different into it. I feel the point I was trying to make was quite clear and has been brought accross as facetiously, and polite as possible. Forum administrators, feel free to close this post.

I don't find that racist, I found it humorous. Nothing unlike what Trevor Noah and other public comedians do to rip off the STEREOTYPE. Not offensive at all.

Sigh... Still doesn't get it... Hey Wackyza, re-read my post, hopefully you'll be able to get it the second time around... Your lack of understanding pertaining to the product you used for (10 years?) and my post is irritating - but hopefully you'll finally 'get it'. Oh, btw, stop with the 'Yours' and try more 'Ours'. You'll feel better. Promise.

Have a sun shine day.
