Fallout: New Vegas Announched

YAY!!!!! Damn exited!

And +1 to Pooky, busy replaying The Elder Scrolls, I forgot how epic it was

WHAT!?!?!?

Morrowind is THE BEST game I have ever ever seen. That and Diablo II.

*dons flamesuit*

Diablo I/II - some excellent class and character concepts, but is nothing more than a grindfest. It's hardly even "glorified" except by hardcore fans of the concept. A part of me actually winces at the fact that I've finished both as a kid. So much precious time lost...

Don't get me wrong, Diablo is and always will be a classic, but I don't consider it "the best" or even "great." I admit that it has probably paved the way for a number of RPG concepts, but nowhere near as much as classics such as Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape or Arcanum have. If anything, Diablo was an optionally offline MMO with such a thumb-suck storyline it could scare the knickers off a Korean MMO.

I have no affinity for TES in the least. I consider it one of the most mindless, uninteresting, unexciting and linear series to ever corrode the RPG genre. Oblivion was by far its best attempt at being an interesting game, but as far as I'm concerned it is nothing more than a large-scale first-person perspective adventure game with character customisation. It is so linear it's laughable, but they mask that with an open-ended world, so who'd notice, really?

My favourite part in Oblivion was probably when I may have "accidentally" offed some poor soul who crossed paths with me. I felt bad, but then I met The Dark Brotherhood and I stumbled on what I believe was the most interesting and fascinating story arc in the entire game. I freely admit it was brilliant. But that was it. That was all the appeal Oblivion had for me.

Again, don't get me wrong - I understand that a number of people enjoy games like Diablo, Titan Quest, Silverfall, TES and a number of others that have currently slipped my mind... But I don't find them interesting or entertaining past perhaps the two-hour mark. I'm picky and stubborn :p

I have to agree with Lycanthrope, I enjoyed Diablo 2 and its expansion pack but thats where the fun stopped. I am a great fan of Both Icewind dale's (They got me hooked on RPG's) Arcanum was classic and Baldur's Gate was awsome. TES was... too big. I waisted about a 180 hours in it before i became bored and haven't touched it since. I didn't even get to the end of the main plot. The world felt a little empty to me with so much of the same thing in there.

Being a fan of deep and interesting narratives Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate and Arcanum are at the top of my fav classic RPG's along with Fallout 1 & 2, i am however ashamed to admit i haven't played Planescape. Nowadays i enjoy Mass Effect and Fallout 3.

Really looking forward to New Vegas. However i hope Obsidian Entertainment change a few things and keep other things the same as in Fallout 3. Maybe up date the character animations a little better so it doesn't look like my character slides around the world.

i am however ashamed to admit i haven't played Planescape.

*gasp* You don't know what you're missing. Planescape is such an amazingly beautiful game! Its graphics are isometric and ancient by today's standards, but the story and the depth is phenomenal. You play an "immortal" character who cannot die in the standard sense - I won't spoil the fun by giving away too many details. But you wake up on a slab in a mortuary-type-place with no recollection of who you were and your only "companion" (at first :p) is a floating skull named Morte who has his own intricate past but is reluctant to share it.

As you progress you find out about your past and the monster (or saint) that you were and... well, lots of other details. Arrrgh... I soooo want to tell you what happens :D Really, do you yourself a favour and find it - it's one of those games that finds a place in your heart :)

I started Fallout on the PS3 and after a few hours of wondering around got really bored and gave up :(

I'd give TES might higher marks than Fallout!
