False memories

My friend created a false memory and to this day he still believes it. He was sh**faced and we were walking home when he stopped to take a piss. We kept walking on and when was he started to run to catch up to us. Unfortunately he tripped and fell face first onto the pavement. We carried him to his nearest relative and left him. I saw him following day and he looked like he had an ass for a face. He was insistent that he got attacked by a bunch of muggers and that we left him to fend for himself.

The messed up thing is that he knows who the muggers were. :wtf:

What your mind does, is for example think of Dave, Steve, Mike, Dave, Steve, Mike, Dave, Steve, Mike, but your mind is constantly discarding this information as it isn't important. a way to test this is to think about the thing you were thinking of in the car this morning when you turned into work, or what you were thinking of in the shower last night.

If you are thinking of Steve, and Dave calls, your mind simply discards it, but if you are thinking of Dave and Dave calls, your mind makes a connection and thinks "that's cool! a pattern!"

No. These are people from his distant past, not "regulars" that one would think about often; it is people that we have not heard from or had any contact with in 6mths/9mths/1year.

with deja vu, your brain does an odd thing, where it says "the next thing you see on tv, you are going to have the feeling of seeing it before." that is why deja vu is deja vu, and not a repeat. it makes no sense to be familiar with something but your brain has like a mini orgasm now. i don't know why the brain does this, but i know it's been tested

Huh? I have a different theory on deja vu: the one side of the brain sees something and registers it a split second faster than the other side.

I probably have false memories along with blank spots
a certain incident happened
I remember everything about the incident except the incident itself :erm:
the people who were with me during the incident remember everything and it does add up however I have no recollection of it.
:wtf: I I`m guessing my memories around the incident may be fake too.

There are many incidents like this. :erm:

Yeah, I get the blank spots too. Most scarily, it has happened a few times while driving. Where I obviously didnt just evaporate between this landmark and that one, but it's like I suddenly 'wake up' and find myself 2km further down the road than I expect and have no memory of even being conscious for that part of the drive. It also happens more long term. For e.g. I argued with my daughter for not telling me that she needed to drop off a project at the music school. As it transpires, she DID tell me during a conversation with 2 other family members. A conversation that I have zero recollection of. Not that I forgot about it, or I cant remember the specifics. It's as though I simply didn't exist in that universe at that time.

Maybe I have a clone. And I'm a time traveler. And sometimes it all just gets confused.

EDIT: maybe I have mad cow disease.

No, the explanation is much less dramatic.

talk about deje vu or dreams or whatever. as a child i was fostered by 3 families. 2 of them i remember very well but the third one is very vague to me i don't know why. i know for a fact they were a loving family unlike the 1 foster home i went to that used to abuse me physically.

i have had this dream a few times where i'm standing in this huge garden and looking at this house. i know it's this foster family that i went to. i recognise the yard and the house in my dream. in my dream i want to go in the house but i just stand there in the garden looking at the house. i know that if i go into the house i will be loved as a child should be loved but for the life of me i don't know why i don't just go in. is it because i don't remember the man and woman? who knows.

It has often happened to my husband that he thinks of people with whom he has had no contact for a long time and soon after, they call. Odd!

Yep, happens to me also. Would think about someone and then have that someone call or sms me. I also randomly started singing a song once and have my wife say she was just thinking of the song.

I also remember in high school sitting in class doing schoolwork then abruptly turn around and looking at a girl who was staring at me. She said, "You know I was thinking of you, hey?" And I was like, "Yeah, I can feel your thoughts upon me." (I actually felt a great pressure in my head, that's why I abruptly turn around).

There's much more of such coincidences. I either leave it up to chance, or I can read minds. ;-)
