No, he is a hacker. Read his bio if you want to find out more. He didn't do anything malicious which is what crackers do. About the most serious offence he did was to download the source code for operating systems to see how it worked. The media blew the whole thing out of proportion and made him out to be this massive boogie man with the result that he was held for 4 and 1/2 years without even a bail hearing, which is against the US constitution.
