I bought d-link range booster adsl router because the issued telkom router had a poor wifi signal.

So i set up this router and went to my notebook which is in one part of house and NO SIGNAL

No network can be found !!!!

On the telkom router i get atleast a poor signal but on the fancy ass router, i cant even see the network.

Can anyone suggest anything??

NO - im not buying a netgear, blah blah blah and i dont wanna use the telkom router

Return it and get your money back.

Maybe try those wifi signal boosters that you plug into a plug point in the other room (cant find a link for you, but try searching these forums)

Calm down.

I suspect you've made a mistake somewhere in setting up the router. But to improve the signal:

Load up netstumbler on your laptop and set it to detect all networks it can find. Go outside with your laptop and walk around you house once. Slowly. Then you know which channels already have networks on them. You can't use all the channels cause they overlap...so check how many are at the lower range 0/1, medium range 6 and higher range 12 I think it was.

The D-Links are set to 12 as default. Range can jump significantly by changing the channel.

Removing encryption (WPA/WEP) boost the signal significantly...but its not a good idea to run without encryption.

After you've done all that maybe check that you've not selected the Hide SSID option.;)

another thing, what interferences do you have? For example, what walls are in between? brick / dry-wall / double wall /etc. What electronic components do you have in line of the signal? What antenna does it have?

channel 1,6,11 are the none overlapping channels for wireless g network

The channel with the least networks is the best.

If the scan HavocXphere suggested shows the most people in 1 and 11, go with 6, etc.

I found my mega100wr2 had a better range than my linksys using the same settings

Something else you can try

Another thing you can try : Go to start / Run and type - Http:// and your ip adress. A page will come up asking for username and password and if you've never used this the password and username will be "admin" (if you have you will know what it is). If you don't know what it is and admin doesn't work you can call Telkom BUT BE PREPAIRED FOR A LONG LONG LONG WAIT! If you get in go to Wireless at the top. Then go through All the settings and tjek if everything is set correct.
