Far Cry 2 is out

@ Extremist - Thanks for the aditional information man, very interesting indeed. Apparently the Dunia engine uses less than 2% of the original Cryengine.

Otherwise, I am really enjoying FC2, it is amazing, one of the best games I have ever played. I dropped everything to medium and it runs perfectly, sits between 35- 45 FPS which is good for me. I was amazed how good the game looks on medium, its incredible.

So far I would say that the first few missions and stuff arent that great, but as soon as you veer off the main story line and jsut go exploring, it gets INSANELY COOL.

As for my comment about the white mercenaries, I didnt mean to raise such a huff. It just seemed a bit at odds with what is actually going on in Africa. Im talking about Sudan,DRC etc. It doesnt detract from the experience, I dont mind what colour they are, as long as my bullets find their way into their bodies :)

Its got my game of the year vote so far...

For guys playing far cry 2 Nvidia put out new drivers for the game 180.43 is out. Go to the nvidia site and then beta drivers and you will find them.

Those are beta drivers? the final will probably be released soon so I'll wait a bit since I have not bought FC2 yet.

See the below quotes... I didn't see any response from you so I figured you didn't notice when people replied to your question. I skipped the first response to your question because it was so far off the mark it would just confuse the matter.

Some more in-depth information I'd like to add here for those interested. Ubisoft owns the Far Cry intellectual property even though Crytek were the ones who developed it. Crytek then decided to break from Ubisoft as their publisher and throw in their lot with EA. Naturally Ubisoft didn't want to give them their IP back.

This IP included the original CryEngine.

So Crytek developed CryEngine 2 with which they built Crysis. EA sold it for them and took the publisher's cut of the sales.

This isn't entirely correct as you may see if you read my comments above. Crysis was built on a completely new engine called CryEngine 2. Crytek couldn't use CryEngine as the base for their new engine because Ubisoft owns it. Ubisoft actually started building Dunia from CryEngine but according to an interview with the producer only a handful of lines of code from the original CryEngine remain in Dunia.

Sure, but Far Cry 2 also doesn't suck ;).

Exactly.
hehe, nice way to sum it all up!

Some more info: So far the only other game to be using the farcry engine that isn't a farcry game is haze. Free radical did quite a good job at giving it a new look.

question does this game run better than crysis performance wise ??

Yea totally. I get nice frames with my aging E6400 (3GHZ),2GB 800, AND 8800GTS 320 MB (Old G90). I dropped the resolution from my usual 1680x1050 to 1600x900, and with 2AA and everything on high I get around 45-50 fps. Similar settings on crysis crawl along at around 18fps. The funnt thing is, Iv played crysis on a Hd4870 on pretty high settings, and I think FC2 looks way better. The graphics are actually unbelievable, the best I have ever seen IMO.

I guess we can thank the multiplatform design, as they really had to optimise the engine to get it running fast on the 360.

I would LOVE to see this game maxed out with 4AA on ultra settings!

What are the expectations with regard to multiplayer for this game? Is it going to take off or be a dead mule like crysis?

thats good news ... need to get this today then ... want to play it maxed out at 1280x1024 on my 8800GTX, im sure i can pull it off ....

^^^ Your 8800GTX will cut through FC2 at that resolution like butter :D:D:D

Right guys...

My rig:

3000+ AMD athlon
2gb DDR400
8600GT Nvidia

The game runs fine on my pc on low settings ... fine enough for me to headshot running targets with the sniper rifle and not have jittery lag.

The afrikaans in the game is hilarious! "Moerse goeie tydsberekening.. MOERSE GOED!" - followed by me machete'ing the dude.

The Veld fires are amazing. I spent so much time just blowing S*** up! :D

The game in general is very enjoyable and is more like GTA than a normal FPS where you are locked within the boundaries of a certain mission/stage.

I was not impressed with crysis at all and even farcry1 was killing me with the graphics requirements ... the monsters at the end also made it a bit sucky.

I have noticed, when chatting to my mates, that you get different starting positions depending on which character you chose to play with.

Lastly - I find the jamming and backfiring/exploding parts of the pick-up rusted guns very cool. Ok it came at the worst of times, but it makes sense.

Get the game. it rules!

Mine should by here tomorrow voicy. Looking forward to hearing cries of " "Moerse goeie tydsberekening.. MOERSE GOED!"

:D

If international gamers want to get a feel for the game they should watch Blood diamond.

But ye, I dig the accents. "Glimlag weer vir my dan skiet ek jou tanne uit!"

Also ordered mine today, wanted to get it on the xbox, but at close to R700, I'll just spoil the ol pc

Quite disgusted with the game...

Bought it, installed it, get the Far Cry 2 splash screen, and then just the black screen, with audio in the background. And I know my PC is capable of playing the game ( Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8Ghz, 2 gig Ram, NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GT 512MB ).

Reading up on the Net, it seems that this is quite a common problem. I tried everything. Updated to the latest and reinstalled graphics drivers. Nothing. Fresca. This sux.

Really digging this game... Only annoying part is having to mission back and forth across the map to complete different tasks, can get a little tedious.
But you can really get immersed in it, setting fires in the veld, firing RPG missiles into unsuspecting gaurd posts.
Missions get a little boring, especially the gunshop missions and the radio tower missions, seems to be the same missions just in different locations.
Otherwise this is a must get game.

Ouch that is really not cool....

With regard to the console vs. pc discussion, I couldn't believe how much more the console version is, that goes for all games I assume...It is ludicrous, why the hell would anyone buy a console when games are so expensive??
