Far Cry 2 is out

Ouch that is really not cool....

With regard to the console vs. pc discussion, I couldn't believe how much more the console version is, that goes for all games I assume...It is ludicrous, why the hell would anyone buy a console when games are so expensive??

The Xbox game is literally double the price of the PC one over at Take2 :o

Well basically with the console version, you wont have an issue like mentioned here. If the game is for the xbox360, you know it will work on the 360. But I heard that is mostly how the console market makes its money. Microsoft does not have a problem dropping the prices of their xbox360, cause they know they will make it up in game sales.

If it wasnt almost R700 I would defintely have purchased it for the xbox, cause I think it would look brilliant on my hdtv

Another thing that has always amazed me is how people manage to play FPS on console using a controller....

How well will a 9600GT perform?

It will do very well. I really depends what resolution you want. But it will handle up to about 1680x1050 with 2AA and everything on high. I reckon you should get around 45-50 fps at those settings with that card, assuming you have 2GB and a dual core.

worst possible way of playing an FPS, and what suprises me is people actually get used to it. I have to admit i got used to it in Halo 3 but thats about it.
FPS games require a keyboard, a control just doesnt suffice.

+1 - I played I think it was Killzone on my PS2 and It was the biggest waste of time....FPS on console I am afraid just doesn't work, for me anyway :D

I was sorely tempted to pick this game up on Friday after work at Cavendish Square, but help off, as I need to cut down on spending.

I've just come from reading the UbiSoft forums, and it seems that there are plenty of problems with the game, known bugs and so on. A lot seems to be related to everyone's favourite anti piracy tool, SecuRom.

One of the things that struck me was that a manager posted there, and literally said that we won't help till Monday when people back in the office. Bad slip there. It's caused a lot of anger.

I'm glad now that I didn't pick it up on Friday. I don't have broadband at home, so I can't spend hours downloading drivers and other fixes. It may have worked right away, but then again maybe not.

It's a pity, as the game looks very interesting and it is pretty different, being set in Africa.

So in summary, I think I'm going to wait until the situtation starts clearing up a bit before making the purchase.

a linky please Asha'man X ...... I'm also in the "must-buy-it-but-waiting-to-know-about-bugs" category :o

Love Love It

Got my copy friday afternoon, I hardly stopped playing it.

Got 8800GTX, 3GB RAM, Vista. Not one single issue. Strange enough I have daemon tools installed and got PowerISO, had no issue with that, I thought I would actaully.

Run at 1680x1050, all high settings, no AA. Benchmark showed 35fps.

Graphics and Gameplay perfect. Sound awesome (just disable music, it spoils the ambiance.). One of the better games of late.

Realism issues talking about: meh, it is a game after all, no such thing as realistic games.

Only little annoyance is the all the checkpoints you have to blast though over and over.

Oh and ja, some Afrikaans in game - cracked myself.

A definite buy in my opinion.

Reading up on the Net, it seems that this is quite a common problem. I tried everything. Updated to the latest and reinstalled graphics drivers. Nothing. Fresca. This sux.

From what I've read this is likely an issue with SecuROM. I don't know if this is the thread to give troubleshooting advice in but what anti-virus are you running? I had to disable avast! during the installation of Far Cry 2 so that SecuROM's online activation program (matroshka.exe or something similar) would run. Otherwise avast! would flag it as a virus and deny execution permissions to it.

So in summary, I think I'm going to wait until the situtation starts clearing up a bit before making the purchase.

This has been the case with almost all new titles that were released with SecuROM 7 DRM. Only Sacred 2 didn't suffer from these issues if memory serves.

Unfortunately publishers and developers will not listen to consumers until they can feel in their pocket that we will no longer stand the draconian DRM schemes they employ that leaves them with all the power and the consumer with none. They need to be made to see that use of copy protection malware does not translate to increased sales.

The fact that the manual instructs the user to disable all protection on your machine (anti-virus, firewalls) before installing truly doesn't inspire confidence in the intentions of the DRM or the software in general.

I had a similar issue with Securom and had to activate manually over the net, all really a bit confusing.

Sacred 2 had similar problems for us South Africans when the game was released.

Funny thing was that I was able to activate Crysis Warhead with no issues, and it never moaned about Nero, MagicIso free mounting tool, CloneCD and whatever else. It just worked.

@ Mephisto_Helix

I was on the Ubisoft forums, http://forums.ubisoft.com, and browsed through the Far Cry 2 section. There's plenty of threads there.

One person was saying that they need to wait for the cracking group RELOADED to issue a working exe, after which UbiSoft will send it out again as an official patch lol :p

I got mine to work by cracking it. None of the fixes they offered worked and i got tired of re-installing. Also on UBIsoft forums they said they are aware of an install problem and a fix will become available within a fwe hours...I couldnt wait that long dammit

Firstly i never got a prompt to put in the CdKey. Then when I get past that I had another issue come up.
Then finally when I think its working I get an error saying theres a software conflict with Daemon tools and/or Alcohol so I uninstalled that (which also didnt help)

Eventually, like I said, I had to use a crack to play an original game. first time ever for me I think

Yes !!! You're right. It struck me now that when I installed it (twice), AVG kept catching matroshka.

Can't wait to get home tonight to test it again.

I also had to crack the game to play it. You buy the game and then still have to go the way of the pirate to play it. Is securom there to stop piracy? I don't think so. All it took to get past that high tech anti piracy mechanism was a 26 KB file.

I got my copy on Friday. Played for about 3-4 hours this weekend no issues. Not one crash. Didn't have any issues with activation (except I made a typo :D).

En die Afrikaans is net te cool vir woorde!!!!

Also disable your firewall during the installation...

One note about trekking across the maps the whole time for those about to start the game:

I've picked up pleeenty diamonds along the way, and when moving between sectors, use the bus stops... it saves you loads of time!

I was also concerned about camps being repopulated at 1st after I cleared them out... but then I remembered TIA. If one dies, there are 2 to take his place. The random guys driving around is also quite a fun aspect of the game.

I had my Barret blow up right in the middle of a crucial moment once, I had to take down the rest of the guys with my machete / handgun. It really is cool/annoying when your rusty guns jam.

One last thing I found really awesome is how the screen shows a time lapse outside when you sleep in a safe house for X amount of hours

A definite must if you want a change of scenery in the gaming world.
