I recently upgraded from XP to Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

I have played Far Cry 2 to death, but love it and decided it would be the first game I played on my new rig.

So I loaded it and patched it. After starting the game it up I got a black screen, which then minimised and that's as close as it gets.

I know there's a problem with the FC2 on this OS (seen a few posts on international tech forums) but all the so-called fixes proposed haven't worked. I am guessing there are probably other games, which have compatibility issues with Win 7, so I am hoping by posting this that maybe some of you have come across this and have a way of getting around this?

Thanks in advance.

work around

load it up again under xp :p

seriously, had the same problem, eventually gave up. kuk game anyway compared to FC1 :D

Played it to death .... how the hell can you play crap to death :wtf:

It's the same routine over & over & over ... I gave up after 2hour ... uninstalled & never looked back  ... they should never have made No2 ... they really messed up after all the good reviews from No1

Yeah, maybe if I could run XP on the same rig?

I never played FC1, but I enjoyed the freedom in FC2. I hear FC3 is going to have even bigger maps with more versatility.

Thankfully we're all different. Different folks different stokes :erm:

It's the kind of game I enjoy. So I'll keep playing it to death :D

that's what I have, dual boot XP and Win7 Pro 64, takes the headaches out of trying to play older games with compatibility issues. however did do the free conversion of FC1 to 64bit which I got running under win7, just finished playing that for about the 6th time :D

Compatability mode does'nt work? Right click the shortcut/Properties & in the compatability tab change it to run in XP mode?
If that doesn't work you could try VMware Player if you have a XP disc/iso to activate.
With Win7 Pro & up you can download Windows Virtual PC + an XP iso with no activation needed......Think VMware Player has stronger graphics capabilities tho so would possibly be better.
I haven't tryed to run games in a VM before so maybe it might suck anyhow but perhaps worth a try if the XP mode won't work.

I ran the game on Win7 64bit without any issues, then again, it was before they released the patches. :)

A FC3 WOW, i enjoyed FC2, the freedom was awsome and the afrikaans speaking was just hilarious. Great game by the way ;)

Running a dual boot, I assume that it's quite simple to install?

i loled , my game was patched upto patch 3 and it worked fine on sp and mp - win7 32bit + 64bit - with my 9800gt and 5770 . try crack the game after its been patched up, i remember the drm giving me lots of troubles even with those fixes the company made. it also saves you from dvd disc ware.

will i get a warning talking about cracks ???

LOL. I'm the other way around. Enjoyed FC2 a LOT. The first game by Crytek had incredibly bad voice acting. I just couldn't get passed that. The gfx was also a bit cartoon looking but nice in fictional tropical island way. Ubisoft simply took the name and made a totally different and more polished game. Yeah it had no depth at all, which you discover after a few hours. It's a straight forward shooter on a very large and gorgeous map, which makes you hope it was more of an RPG-like experience.

It just seems that Crytek only care about looks, but leave everything else low budget. I'm hoping Crysis 2 will be balanced in quality.

Maybe it was different for PC, but on Xbox 360 it was just horrific.
The audio was clipped and everything the NPC's said was rushed and flat. I hated it!
Like I said, maybe different for PC, but it wasn't worth it for me.
