Farm murderer gets double life sentence

A farmworker found guilty of murdering his employers in Limpopo in 2010 has been sentenced to two life sentences in the Thohoyandou High Court.

Hawks Limpopo spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said in a statement that Gibson Banda, 38, was sentenced on Tuesday for the shooting deaths seven years ago, the Rekord East reported.

“The bodies of Johan, 54, and Ann Jesle Greyvensteyn, 52, were found locked in their vehicle under a railway bridge near Kamukos farm by a passerby who immediately alerted police,” said Maluleka.

He added that “both had gunshot wounds in the head”.

Banda was arrested in his home country and extradited to South Africa with the help of Interpol.

“During the arrest, the police recovered property stolen during the farm attack and the firearm used to commit [the] crime,” said Maluleka.

Banda appeared numerous times both in the Thohoyandou and Pretoria high courts during his lengthy trial.

A farmer was robbed on Tuesday morning. At about five he got free and ask someone to go to the police station. All were asleep there, [wolmaranstad] , by 8, still no policemen on the farm.

Because we are not all farmers and sometimes crime is a bit remote for us ( nowadays a more and more unlikely assertion ) we often tend to forget , not be aware of what goes on in the rest of our country.

Just because we encounter something a lot doesn't mean it has to be stickied. If we sticky this why not just sticky why-whites-are-racist articles too?

What is discussed here are ACTUAL physical cases of crimes committed
Generally verifiable by police reports / dockets opened

There is a quantum of difference

[ANALYSIS] Why calculating a farm murder rate in SA is near impossible

In a parliamentary debate, two different rates for the number of people murdered on farms in South Africa were mentioned. But experts say that it’s almost impossible to accurately calculate such a figure.
In a recent debate in South Africa’s parliament, two different farm murder rates were shared.

“The farm murder rate is 133 per 100,000,” Freedom Front Plus member of parliament, Petrus Groenewald, told fellow parliamentarians.

But 45 minutes later, the African Christian Democratic Party’s Steve Swart cited a lower figure.

“Whilst we have an unacceptably high murder rate in this nation of 34 people per 100,000, for farmers, the figure is 97 per 100,000. Almost 3 times the average,” claimed Swart.

Is it possible to calculate an accurate farm murder rate? We looked into it.

I guess the trouble start when you start calculating the other end. Who is farmers exactly? And how many of them do we have?

I would guess that getting killed on a small holding/farm = Farmer. These attacks on small holdings/farms are classified as farm attacks. I still don't see how it's that hard to say A was killed on a farm, B was killed on a small holding and C was killed in a house in town.

and if you die at the hospital after ?

How are they going to extract this kind of information - its very specific. Means they need to start classifying each crime or some one needs to read every single murder docket in the country and evaluate individually... retrospectively.

Must the persons job be "Farmer" or must the murder happen on their own plot/farm, must the incident be an aggravated robbery or does a farmer murdering his wife not count. Must the assailant be black and the farmer white ?

The whole problem round this issue is that people want to promote the agenda that white farmers are being targeted by black people.

Police will still attend to the crime scheme. Where the attack happens is what's relevant not where the person died after the fact. Investigations don't happen in hospital but at the crime scene.

Classification for a farm attack is pretty clear. Attack needs to happen on a small-holding or farm for it to qualify as a farm attack. Thus the victims of a farm attack will be "farmers"
What is so hard to understand?

Let's look at the flipside of your argument then, would the lack of this information not prove there are figures being hidden on purpose or purely by neglect to back up a claim of it not being the case?
