Yea, since the guards or not there no more, seems to be a few people trying their chances. But I have to admit, our area is pretty ok when it comes to patrols and support.

Our power went out last night at around 21:15 or there about. (Whole area) was still off when we left this morning for work. No idea what the issue was this time. But yes, made for some interesting sleeping last night

I have a few of these Magneto LED rechargeable lights (R199, Dischem, Makro and other places) , if power goes off I go hang then on their screws outside for a lit yard, single-row-active setting enough to light up yard, and it claims to last over 20 hours per charge.

I personally feel safer when the power goes out. I can see pretty well in the dark, and I know my house well enough to get some kind of advantage.

The darkness is not so much an issue. I have a generator too I can run through the night if need be. And some of these touch lights.

We have a flood light burning in the front and the back of the house. We have fans running in the house at night and so on. The quietness of it all last night. Makes one's imagination run all over the place. I kid you not, I was actually convinced a few times I'm hearing someone in the house :D

THAT
IS why you have LOTS of -- "booby-traps"
Things that make LOTS of noise when triggered --
A trip line attached to a siren
A bucket half full of pebbles
and
So on and so forth ..........:)

Pair plead guilty to killing farmer, kidnapping his wife

Johannesburg - Two men have been convicted by the Pietermaritzburg High Court and will be sentenced next year after they pleaded guilty to a farm attack.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said the duo, Sibusiso Mbatha, 23, and Ayanda Mncube, 21, were convicted for murder, kidnapping and robbery with aggravating circumstances. The case was postponed to 22 January for sentencing.

"On 4 November 2017 at 5:30, the victim, Daniel Swanepoel, 57, was alone at his farmhouse at Eensgevonden, Vryheid, when he was attacked by the suspects," Zwane said.

"His wife was not at home at the time. The suspects severely stabbed the victim, demanding credit cards and cash from him."

Zwane said the victim told Mbatha and Mncube that he didn't have any money, which led to them continuing to stab him.

"The man died as a results of injuries he sustained. The suspects waited for his wife to return and around 15:00 on the same day, his wife arrived and she was grabbed by the suspects."

"They forced her into her vehicle and drove away. She was forced to withdrew cash from the nearby ATM, using her credit cards."

Suspect in brutal farm attack hangs himself in holding cell

Kimberley - The general worker who was arrested in connection with the brutal attack on an elderly couple who employed him on their smallholding near Kuruman, is believed to have committed suicide by hanging himself at the Kathu police station on Thursday.

The man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Danie “Kat” Fourie, 70, as well as the vicious assault on his wife Mariaan, 63.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock, said that police discovered the suspect’s body inside the Kathu police station holding cells on Thursday morning.

“The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated. The outcome of police investigations will determine whether the case will be closed,” said Kock.

Fourie, 70, is believed to have been stabbed to death and his body dumped on a plot in Seoding village, near Kuruman, during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

#FarmMurders: It's time to take a stand, says KZN premier

Durban – The premier of KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday, said it was time to take a stand against farm murders and talk openly about “the problem”.

“I think it is important to take a stand now; the killing of farmers is a problem. When we talk with farmers it seems as if this problem is based on or directed at them as farmers. We need to talk about this, since the protection of most of the farmers is based on correcting the mood and well-being between the farm workers, farm dwellers and neighbours,” said Premier Willies Mchunu.

Mchunu, who is also the deputy chair of the provincial African National Congress, was speaking at a Jan Slabbert memorial lecture in Vryheid on Thursday afternoon. A former Vryheid mayor, Slabbert was an Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Member of Parliament before leaving to form his own party. He later joined the ANC.

Mchunu said that the isolation of farms meant that many farmers were vulnerable.

“We need to create an atmosphere of being ‘your brother’s keeper’, where neighbours and passers-by will report all suspicious people.”

Strong communication ties and systems amongst the farming community should be part of a prevention strategy, he said. This, combined with an improvement in labour relations between farm owners and farm dwellers, would go a long way in creating a protective environment.

KZN farmer, 65, fights off bush knife-wielding attacker

Durban – A 65-year-old farmer who fought off a bush knife-wielding attacker is nursing his wounds in hospital following a farm attack on his farm in Paddock, south of KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Friday.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said the farmer heard his dog barking at about 22:50 on Thursday night.

"He went outside to investigate. As he untied the dog, he was approached by a man carrying a bush knife who then attacked him," said Zwane.

They fought and then the suspect ran away, said Zwane.

"The complainant was injured on his head and left arm and was taken to hospital," he said.

Paddock police, local farmers and security companies all responded to assist the farmer but couldn't find the attacker, he said.

A case of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm was opened for further investigation, Zwane said.

Mpumalanga couple tied up, robbed on farm

Nelspruit – Police have launched a manhunt for two suspects who attacked and robbed a couple at a farm in White River, north of Nelspruit, in Mpumalanga.

The two suspects allegedly robbed the couple of their vehicle, firearms, ammunition and a telescope on Saturday, said Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe on Monday.

The attack took place at around 11:00 when the husband and the wife were returning from town, said Bhembe.

"According to information at police disposal, the suspects appeared from nowhere and held them up at gunpoint, before tying them up. The duo then reportedly took the wife into the house, leaving the husband outside," he said.

Bhembe said the suspects reportedly broke open the safe door inside the house.

He said they took four .38 Special revolvers with 25 rounds, a .303 hunting rifle with 40 rounds, two shotguns, a .22 rifle, and a telescope.

"In the meantime, the husband managed to untie himself and ran to the tar road for assistance, where he then called a security company. The suspects are reported to have tried stealing a Nissan bakkie but failed, however they managed to steal the couple's silver Mercedes-Benz, with the registration number FNG 547 MP," he said.

Police appealed to anyone who may assist in the investigation to contact Warrant Officer Joubs Joubert at 082 7144 983.
