People have stayed on farms for many a generation and not a single fig stolen from a tree. Then one day, intruders storm/rob/murder/torture/rape the people on that exact farm. Yes, people in general belief it will not happen to me/us. And it shouldn't. being robbed/tortured/raped/murdered because you left a back door open for a breeze doesn't make anyone complacent or lax.

It's a refusal to be locked up in a jail because of circumstances.

Blaming victims makes someone a moron, there is not other way of putting it.

Parking your car in the street overnight with it unlocked and the key inside is stupid. Having your house invaded with or without security is not being stupid. You should not be attacked inside your own damn house/yard.

However -- the whole Farm crime debate has attempted to show that the farmers are a particular / specific target group

Farmers and police in a remote northern KwaZulu-Natal farming area worked together to stop two armed robbery suspects in their tracks on Wednesday. Police spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbele said three men had allegedly held a farm worker at gunpoint in her room on a farm in the Kingsley area, early on Wednesday morning.

"The victim screamed and her employer came to help. The suspects fled on foot across a nearby river," she said. "Kingsley police were called to the scene and neighbouring police stations and local farmers were alerted. "Mbele said a manhunt for the trio ensued. "The two suspects were spotted in the Hattingspruit policing area and were arrested.

"Police recovered balaclavas, a crowbar, an angle grinder and the barrel of a rifle.

But it's not just one swallow, many other good stories, but giving credit where it's due is just not our thing. Horror stories and cops who don't care because they support the government sponsored genocide are the most favoured stories.
