Farm Attacks

She said two men assaulted her using a crowbar, severely injuring her.

“The pain was excruciating, and for nearly twenty minutes, I struggled to comprehend the unfolding events.”

Prinsloo’s hands were tied using shoelaces in the kitchen, the attacker secured her feet with a belt from her dressing gown.

They also gagged her with rags and held knives against her throat. It was during this menacing encounter that they demanded money.

Despite not bringing money home from the shop that afternoon, Prinsloo recounted: “They rifled through my belongings, expressing anger and frustration when their search yielded no money.”

Amid the terror, Prinsloo shared the horrifying threat the attackers made against her life. “Their chilling words, ‘We are going to kill you,’ reverberated as the knives pressed against my throat.”

The situation escalated as the attackers forcibly placed a green-striped bag over her head, demanding valuables and access to a safe. They took her to her bedroom, where she was thrown onto the bed.

“The fear that gripped me during those moments is indescribable,” Prinsloo confessed.

Attackers shout, "Kill the Boer, kill the farmer," before stabbing a female victim with a spear.

A couple from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal were severely assaulted on their farm while their attackers shouted, “Kill the Boer, kill the Farmer”. Four attackers forced their way into the farmhouse of Tim Platt and his wife, Amanda, during the early morning hours of 17 August. The attackers gained entry to the house by breaking down the front door and security gate, as well as a window and burglar bars.
“I shouted ‘just go!’ and he leaned over the door grabbing me … hitting me on the arm with some object then he pulled me so hard while shouting ‘Kill the Boer, kill the Farmer’! I managed to loosen his grip and got away and ran to set the alarm off again but in vain! They were ruthless and persistent – nothing deterred them, not even the alarm nor the fact we were fighting back,” says Amanda.
Amanda was beaten with a bolt cutter and lead pipes, and eventually stabbed with a spear. While her husband was still trying to fight off the attackers, she managed to escape and returned armed to save her husband. Upon her return, the attackers had already fled.

It is alleged that the couple’s son who is staying outside Bloemfontein, last spoke to his parents over the phone on Thursday evening. He tried to contact them over the weekend and on Monday, until he asked one of his friends to go and see what is going on.

The friend on arrival, found everything still in order at the elderly's farmhouse. Upon entering the house as the doors were left open, he allegedly found the 71-year-old farmer with multiple lacerations on the head and body. He immediately called Kagisanong police and emergency personnel.

Police rushed to the scene and on arrival made another discovery, the victim's injured wife under the mattress but she was still alive. The 64-year-old was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and sadly her husband was declared dead at the scene.

Engineer killed on farm in Eastern Cape

Van Niekerk lived alone in the house on the farm Uitkyk while he was working as a resident engineer, attached to the company SNA Civil and Structural Engineers, on a road reconstruction project on the R390 route between Cradock and Hofmeyr. He would have stayed in this house for the duration of the project (about three years).

According to Sgt. Majola Nkohli, police spokesperson, said the police were called to the scene at around 09:30. There they found Van Niekerk with stab wounds to his torso. The attacker(s) allegedly also cut his throat.

“The suspect(s) fled in Van Niekerk’s Toyota Prado. This vehicle was later found with two flat tires on the Conway road in Hofmeyr,” confirms Nkohli.
The project started about two months ago and it would have been Van Niekerk’s last major road construction project. He would then officially retire as an engineer.

Swanepoel describes Van Niekerk as a family man and he often visited his son in Nelspruit and his daughter in East London. His wife died of cancer a few years ago and he lived on his own since then.

“He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and only they could play with his large collection of scale models of road construction equipment. He was very sentimental and lived for his family and often went on holiday together as a family. He had a very healthy sense of humor and never complained.

“He will be remembered by many people as a religious, hard-working perfectionist who cared about his fellow man.

“We are all going to miss you very much Oom Thys!”
