Farmer 'sabotaged' road

when i read this story it reminded me of when my father told me he had to walk to school every day in the snow barefoot. The exaggeration in the story is ridiculous. The journalist should have asked them to show him the 70km route they walk to the nearest road before reporting such rubbish. This means going to transport and back in one day would be a 140km only walking round way trip. The comrades marathon is 87km and the course record for men is 5 hours and 20 minutes for woman it's about 6 hours and that's on a smooth tarred road with proper running shoes.
How some people can even think that walking that distance daily not to even mention the largest trench being dug overnight is possible is beyond me.
 
There are plenty of rural roads out there where if one way is blocked, the alternative route is much longer. And I would say the 70km was a round trip, not both ways.
 
Um, the trench was dug on a spot on the road. Not a 35km long trench. The bus/taxi that normally would pass through the area for passengers could not operate. So they had to walk to their destination or to the nearest bus/taxi rank. Probably not 70km though.
 
We have a freaking public dirt road going through one of our farms. It is so seldom used that it looks like a farm trail. It was never graded and we thought the government had forgotten about it. Apparently GPS`s havent, and the one time we did try block it off (with a gate & padlock)... some people in 4x4`s were following their GPS and that road and just cut through the locks and pushed on through.
 
Still highly improbable if 70km or 140km walking everyday carrying baggage and a hell of a lot of water so you don't dehydrate.

Driving that distance daily on a tar road is a long enough trip. Now you want to say walking it daily is doable. Human walking speed is about 5 km an hour. So the school kids to get to school at 7:30 start walking the 35km at midnight get to the main road at 7:00 take a taxi and arrive at school at 7:30. Then leave school at 14:00 take a taxi that drops them off at 14:30 to walk the 35km back and arrive at 21:30 at home to have to immediately go to bed for 2 and a half hours just to complete the cycle again. Possible but highly improbable. Can't be 140km one way like the article says as there isn't 28hours an a day.

As I said before, I think 70km is an overestimation of the round trip. That is quite plausible given how remote some of the rural areas are.
 
His road or a national road?

Maybe he was digging a trench to give them water?

Just because you can't do it or can only do it at 5km/hr, doesn't mean it can't be done. I'm almost certain the 70 kms is a round trip

No you torture people because of complete and utter hatred for those people.
So please show me the black farm owners that have been tortured like the white ones. Dont see their babies and old people that have been treated in this manner.
