I've just ordered this: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...rt-IC-QC3-0-USB-Wall/1941878_32679797334.html

It was on sale - 9USD for charger + USB-C cable (don't need that now, but will in the future).

What other fast chargers are available locally or have been ordered in and work well?

I was waiting on a Blitzwolf from BangGood, but they took too long to get stock, then this Fonken popped up- couldn't resist at 9USD :D
 
Fast charging actually makes the battery last much less than a normal charge.

What he means is on for example Samsung Galaxy phones you can turn off fast charging, a normal "slow" charge lasts longer per charge, lets say with fast charging the charge will last 12 hours but with the normal charge it lasts 15 hours.

I have no idea actually, in theory it should be exactly the same, the cells get charged and full is full no matter how, but there are threads all over the internet including the Galaxy S6 thread on here where people noticed if you use the wireless charger or slow charged the phone the battery would last longer.

Last good explanation I saw was that the phone over-estimates how charged it is with the fast charger- so it'll say it's 80% when in fact it's slightly less.

The slow charger gives the phone time to know where it is, and so when it reports it is at 80%, it's 'more correct'. Something like that.

The perception then is that the phone lasts longer when charged to the same point with a slow charger.

Fast charger would also likely have a higher temperature as you unplug it, resulting in a quicker initial drain until things even out.

Either way, for an on the go charger, I'd want the Quick Charge 3.0 one, so when I happen across a plug I can grab as much juice as I can.

For day to day charging- at home, over night etc, I'll use my old 1A charger.

Maybe while you're ordering you should add a fast charging car charger too while you're having things shipped.

Same kind of sale I got on the wall charger. I've got a car charger- 2.4A is fine for keeping things going.

I just wanted a QC3.0 charger, as my budget Xiaomi has the QC capability but didn't come with a QC charger...

The charger has already been shipped :)

Why not go full in, 2.4A but it's not QC 3.0 compliant, it's only R72 extra.

I only need a fast charging power bank then I have the trifecta.

Ebucks have the Samsung Fast Charger at a pretty good price, if you factor in the 40% discount.

R599 for a 10200 mAh fast charging power bank isn't bad but I will live with the free one I got off of Samsung Rewards.

My Fonken seems to top out at just under 2400 mah on my Mi Max.

With my Oneplus One 2100 mah charger, I get 1630 mah on the Mi Max.

Pretty happy with the Fonken so far.

To answer my own question... i ordered this on 18 March, only opened the eBucks box it was in a few days ago and it says on the box fast charging / adaptive fast charging. So even if one had paid the full R459 price in rands, it was still then a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the price you'll pay at Vodacom or Samsung for example.
