Hi there , we are currently using quickbooks as a accounting package , and the network uses some large files , the computer we use are overkill for what we need but when we use them we have slowdown on the network , we are using 10/100 network at the moment , would a gigabit network help ?

it definitely would, also check your switches. They might just be outdated hubs. And wifi also slows things down quite a bit.

I didn't really see an increase in speed between my server and my PC when I went from 100Mbps to 1Gbps

well, that's massively disappointing. and highly suspicious in light of your other issues. Tried pulling the NIC and then running the games?

Using my onboard for a while now (also gigabit)

And yes, I have tried with and without any network hardware. I also observed the lack of increased speed between my PC and ID10T's (quite some time ago)

But you'd think that at least one in four would work properly?

Not that I'm complaining about 100Mbps, still plenty fast for home use :)

I had a Gigabit card in my old Nforce 2.

it only manages 200Mbit. About the same as a cheapie PCI gigabit card though a PCI slot.

My onboard Nforce4 and nforce6 series Gigabit get close to 900Mbits. You can get a Marvel chipset PCI-E(1x) network card that will do about 700Mbits.

At the last Si-Corp lan (they have got full gigabit on every table), using 2 cables and the 2x Nforce680i gigabit cards multiplexed, I was copying from other peeps at 96MBytes a second.
Can anyone say "movie in 10 seconds"

/shameless bragging off

it was hard drive limited though. my 2 500GB's in RAID 0 cant write quicker.
