E620 antenna

We got an external antenna for the Huawei card, got it from the MTN store in Harties, where we got the card on the R49pm package.
It's like a bit expensive though, R350!

Hi MTNDD

Does this mean that the MTN external antenna is not compatible purely with the MTN hardware or is this a network related issue? The reason I ask is that I use my E620 card and external antenna (both received from MTN) on the Vodacom and Cell C networks as well.

Thanks.

It would be the hardware - the MTN card has a different plug (smaller) than the VC card.

I have an external antenna for my MTN E620 card.

I got it from Vodaworld some time ago. The guy at the data kiosk gave me one. :)

It is an antenna for the Vodacom Huawei E620 card. The antennas for the MTN and Vodacom Huawei cards are therefore compatible.

The connector for VC data card is different to the MTN F@stlink connector just a warning I haven't tried plugging the VC antenna into the F@stlink card.......

What you getting HSDPA with Vodacom but not MTN?

Is that what you're saying?

in my area now mtn does not have 3g/hsdpa coverage, so i use my voda sim with fastlink card
but only get 3g speeds signal is full
will antenea help get speeds up?

It is difficult to say, HSDPA is even more full of Sh8t than 3G - so if you get 3g, it does not mean you will get HSDPA with an antenna - My phone shows 3g & HSDPA in my area on VC but I do not even get a 3g connection due to the bad coverage of VC. I also do not get 3g/HSDPA on MTN - pity though cause its the only network that allows me to even just browse. The other 2 (VC, VM) are dead in the water (or is that air)). :)

but i mean, if i'm say... in a gprs area and connect the antenna will i atleast get better speeds than GPRS?

I really can't live with 653 bps most of the time, usually my phones gprs connects faster. why is that?

mine shows full 5 bars 3g/hsdpa
but only get 3g speeds
would an antenna make a difference - small one on card
or
large external one?
according to vodacom tech i foned, i shudnt have a problem

Good day,

You say you getting full bar of signal and you not getting HSDPA speeds??

Is the card flashing green? Also what are you using to check your speeds?

Please advise if you using something like http://212.19.68.252/speed.html to test your speeds?

Please advise ASAP

Thanks MTNDD

First 128K 3000 msecs: Download speed = 43691 Bytes per sec, Approx = 364K bits per sec
Second 128K 3906 msecs: Download speed = 33557 Bytes per sec, Approx = 279K bits per sec
Third 128K 3656 msecs: Download speed = 35851 Bytes per sec, Approx = 298K bits per sec
Fourth 128K 3329 msecs: Download speed = 39373 Bytes per sec, Approx = 328K bits per sec

I even went to city where HSDPA/3G has full coverage today

This looks like you only getting 3G speeds not even - More like a very good Edge connection................

Could you please PM me the following info so that I can escalate this to our 3G engineers

Cell phone number

Area's where the card is flashing green for HSDPA speeds you getting

I think this a huge concern
