Faulty DVD drive?

Google was not my friend here. Has anyone received this error before? It happens whenever I insert any disk.

Do you get the same disc title even after a reboot? Are they blank discs?

Yup. They are not blank disks, I am not trying to write a disk here, but to install something.

I'd go with a duff dvd drive then.

As a final test - if you have any bootable CD's try and boot off them.

DVD-RAM disks? You can use as removable storage device, or DVD media (depends on formatting).
What is printed on?

This is a normal CD I'm trying to install a driver from. Does this with any other CD/DVD

If normal pressed CD, then possibly writer is faulty. Try to disable recording in Windows Explorer and power off/on, it could be driver problem.

Hmmm very strange, it could still be a software issue. Try opening the disc via Run command or Disk Management.

Didn't try via DOS prompt, but Disk Management says the partition is fine.

Anyway, it's **** this **** 'o clock, I'm leaving.

haha, would be pretty painful if you get a new DVD-ROM and you still have the same problem
