Hi all,

I need to pick someones brain that has some clue about the CPA

a lady at work bought a brand new samsung laptop from HIFI corp 18 months ago, a I3 decent laptop. Laptop went and broke now, and she sent it back to them, under its 2 year warranty. Hifi corp at this point have acknowledged that its stuffed. They cannot offer a similar model, because they all at a higher price now ( would have to pay in a difference) , and Samsung doesn't offer the same model anymore.

What are her options here, take a refund ( but then cant buy much with the refund value) , or is Hifi Corp Obliged to replace the laptop with a similar model?

Thanks

Laptops don't go and break. They become broken through the actions of people. If the lady fekked it up herself - then perhaps she should take their offer and RUN?

this one, had a known fault on the range ( as per the tech from hifi corp)

they offering her some crappy celeron as a replacement for a I3?

Thanks for clarifying. I would address it with HiFi Corp Head Office instead of the store if they aren't budging. I've found they they are usually more amenable to resolving a customer complaint than a branch is. If she doesn't come right there - then seek more formal recourse.

That's not legal. They should offer her something similar.

They have to refund her if they can't offer her the equivalent. She can ask Samsung about it directly.

Thing is with a refund, best she is looking at is a celeron

Tbh, if it's not repairable and if Samsung South Africa can't help either, I'd take the money (make sure to copy all the data off the disk first). Considering it's 18 months old, you're in range for a good used laptop at worst if you get the original payment price.

About two years ago I helped a friend buy an I5 laptop. A few months ago, it got stolen. Insurance payed him out. With what we got, we bought new and slightly better. The thing with technology is that it's moving forward fast. Today's treasures are tomorrow's junk everybody is trying to dump.

It may help if you mention a value ito rands.

I hope your friend get's sorted.

thanks guys, have given her the options, its her call what to do next

I hope this helps. Best of luck!
