Getting read or right errors wrt memory in warcraft III - have 4gb - have patch 1.21a that doesnt fix it - so im presuming my ddr 2 800 modules some might be faulty - what a good boot cd to run memtest off, currently have ubcd but wondering if hirens or some such is better.

Thanks
J

i used a memory test thing in windows called memtest. found a faulty ram module with that sweet app. not sure where you can download it but i remember it being free and called memtest.

maybe try sourceforge.

memory problems are more common than you expect, and it often doesn't even look like a problem until properly diagnosed.

BSOD, or random shutdowns in Windows a common "prognosis" to memory failures (among other things). Linux would at least give you some proper errors and an idea of what's going on.

memtest86+ is a great tool to test RAM, and if you download sysrescuecd & burn to a CD, you have a bootable CD with memtest & a lot of other handy tools to test various hardware and even recover lost data

Thanks trying ultimate boot cd for now, used hirens a while back - should dl em all and find one I like.

How long would it take to test 4gb ram? e.g. should I do it while I sleep, will I be without a pc for a night if I do it now?

My war3 also gives a few random memory errors, but I doubt it's my RAM.

How often does this happen? For me it's only with Warcraft and not very often so I'm sure it's the game.

Usually I cant have a game without it happening its totally random sometimes 2 min in to a dota game, sometimes 40, and i keep being deauthed for this crap :(

Win xp 32 bit kept BSODING me but that wasnt for ram but audio issues , on 64 bit now and only had 1 bsod in like over a week - so thats fixed ,but the fatal errors for war3 keep popping up - how much ram are you running im worried its the amount of 4gb that freaks war3 out as its pretty old now 6-8 yrs.

So I ran memtest and memtest + on my 4x 1gb ddr2 800 modules - left it running for 12 hours and it still didnt complete all the tests but came up with 8 errors - so im guessing anything more than 0 = faulty ram.

Pass 16 Errors 8

Tst Pass Failing Address Good Bad Err-Bits
3 0 0008669f408 - 2150.9mb 04040404 04041404 000010000

Count Chan 8

How do I know which of the 4 modules is faulty as running memtest on each individual module seems to be alot of time - are any one of these addresses referring to a module serial number or some such?

Thanks

bump bump bump - calling all techies - bump.

well dude its a long process

take out 3 and run memtest

take the one out test the next one and so on

process of elimination

I think i already knew that but didnt want to hear it :(

Is it possible the fault could lie in more than 1? or would it have listed a diff mem address?

Thanks
J

dunno its a long process but something you will have to find out haha

typical of life it will be the last one you test haha

Oh god dont jinx me please :P - killa according to those results up top is it more than 1 module or would it give another fault address if it was another module as well

?

yea maybe its 2 of the 4 sticks

leaves u in the position, u dont know which one

How lame, transend you dissapoint me :(

Ram from rectron is lifetime gaurantee right?

I know it takes a lot of time, but testing each module individually is the recommended way of testing :)

How long would a 1gb module take to scan with memtest? - im gonna be without a pc for a while arent i :( and my old 1.2ghz beast is sitting in a corner with a blown psu I think.
