Favourite coffee

No, it is not. Chicory is what you are left with after you have a coffee enema.

Kak koffie!

So what does everyone drink during those accursed moments when one must endure instant coffee?

Jacobs here.

Bring your own coffee or manage your stock better? :p

I only use Jacobs when I prep a milk coffee for myself: 2x tsp jacobs, 2x tsp coconut sugar in a long glass. Fill with just enough water to cover coffee and sugar then mix well. Finally, fill to top with cold milk and mix again.

Nescafé Brazilian or Columbian.
Makes Jacobs taste like chicory.

So this little machine looks very interesting. And not a terrible price at R3400 from YC (correct me if I'm wrong). Will just have to buy a decent grinder. What say you?

Just make sure it is 9 bar and not the 15 bar crap. Although this common for the cheap machines.

"The 15 bar pressure creates an espresso with a rich aroma and a nut-coloured crema on top"

No, I won't get it.

Can you pull a 25 second shot with it?

Explain the 9 bar vs 15 bar bit?
That is a big debate I won't be getting into, which one is better. But constant 9 bar pressure is usually the standard for a good cup on your commercial machines.

The cheaper machines use a pump that supposedly pumps 15 bar, but if you make the ground too fine to get a 25 second espresso, the pump can't handle it. And if you make it coarser, the espresso brews too fast as there is too much pressure.

Any one here with a '15 bar' cheapy that gets a constant 25 second shot without issues?

Interesting. I have a Jura 15 bar machine that has never given me any problems and I have seen problems you describe on the cheap 3 bar machines, but never thought there could be an issue with the pressure being too high!

So you manage to pull a 25-30 second shot?

It's an automatic bean to cup machine, so not sure how to measure or if this applies, but I just timed how long it takes for a shot to complete from the time the coffee starts coming out, and it does take about that long.

Automatic. That's a different story. You just press a button and don't really have control then.
