Not sure The Hobbit is classified as a trilogy.

LOTR is 3 movies based on the 3 books which make up the LOTR.

The Hobbit is one book stretched into 3 movies - which is kinda weird seeing as The Hobbit book is shorter than any of the 3 LOTR books.
