Anyone else experiencing intermittent throughput? Been like this the last few days but this weekend was the worst. Can usually connect & authenticate fine, everything's fine for a while then tray icon shows yellow 'limited internet connection' & sites doesn't open anymore.

Calling 155 no help, they run me through the standard uninstall the software etc bull****. Worse was 155 was unavailable most of the weekend, only some canned 'we are experiencing throughput problems in the west' message.

I've been on 3G for 3 years, 2 1/2 of those were fine but the last 6 month were dismal. Funny that when asked about Seacom their standard answer is 'redundancy' - so where were your redundancy last nite @ 4 huh?

Insult to injury is we're still paying like R180/gig - for what?

Phoned accounts this morning & canceled my data contact with them - ADSL here I come.

I should have said I'm in Pretoria East - quite a long way from WC!

I was using my 3G this weekend and it was working 100%. I am in the Eastgate area though. Sounds like a localized problem. If it is ongoing, then I suggest you log a fault with 082155 and provide VD with the ref number.

U may also go the email route via [email protected]
A ref number will then be emailed to you.

Provide the following details -
CELL NUMBER TO LOG FAULT:
ALTERNATIVE CONTACT NUMBER:
CONTACT PERSON NAME & SURNAME:
EXACT PHYSICAL ADDRESS WHERE PROBLEM IS:
NATURE OF THE PROBLEM:

The 3G system is several orders of magnitude more complex than ADSL. It can never be as reliable as ADSL. With 3G you get mobility. With ADSL you get reliability. Take your pick.

I understand the mobility vs reliability issue, no problem there.

The issue is I've been having consistent lower QoS from their 3G. I've had their 3G for 3 years now .. and its progressively getting worse. Like 6 months ago I was working similar ridiculous hours (note the reference to working at 4 on a Sat morning in my OP) and in 3 consecutive nights till 3 in the morning I maybe got disconnected twice. Now its a couple of times a night. Sometimes I cannot connect at all - I mean I can authenticate, there's just nothing on the other side.

Anyway, I'm gone. ADSL on order.

Aye, wireless broadband. Don't know why everyone always complains about it because any wireless network cannot guarrantee stability.

If the networks says they can they are lying.

I have two accounts, one MTN and one Vodacom. Most of the time one of the two works :)
