that dude that said because he installed a proxy server and a firewall is probably an ex-mweb user who LOVED their tech support for all their wisdom and true world knowledge they shine on him whenever he calls with a problem

yes, that was sarcasm

Hell, my gran on a scooter with a memory stick is faster than Sentech's MyWireless!

Hi there,

How the **** did you get my email address? I appreciate that you're unhappy
but don't appreciate unsolicited email, especially as I am not a Sentech
client!

Congrats!
That must have been the most enjoyable and well-written spam message I've ever received!

On the serious side - I fully support this initiative!

Interesting - Can't get a response from Sentech, then you send a mail to a few people, and ba-boom: Two new entries on the notice board.

So... here we are being capped... and handing over R650.00 or more for this treatment and all sentech has to say is well what we have been hearing for a while now...

Surely we should take this to the press and apply some preasure on Sentech and let be public knowledge of their capping... I mean we are ALL experiencing this... is that not proof enough...

Anyway glag I found this forum...

But, thats not what helpdesk told me, I'm the only one!!!
vowthorn: Welcome!!!
in regards to press notification, we've been holding back on sentech for a little while to give them a window to clean up their house, but now the time is ripe!
See the topic, http://www.myadsl.co.za/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4736 knowing the enthusiasm of users on the forum, and the avid press readership of the forum, since sentech invited the press for questions, they'll get it very soon!

HI THERE GROUP OF SENTECH CUSTOMERS,

Thanks very much for sending us your letter and for supplying the valuable
information.

My wife and I also have been experiencing the problems you mention. We also
have found Sentech 'help desk' assistance unhelpful.

Please keep us on your mailing list and keep us informed of any further
developments.

The initiative you took on behalf of us is appreciated very much.

Keep well.

Hi there....As a relatively "new"customer,i must confess,the issues
mentioned in your e-mail does certainly raise concern for me....

I personally have not "as of yet"had a very bad experience with Sentech
as such but then again,it could still perhaps be early days as i
haven,t used it very often?(I am keeping my "landline dial-up" as a
"back up" for now....)

There are certain "minor"issues that i did encounter with regards to
getting connected initially though...In my opinion there is quite a bit
of room for improvement regarding the technical support for Mac
users...?Although i eventually got "My Wireless" going,it probably
would have been a much quicker and less frustrating process had there
been
more specific info, options and guidelines available on the website to
Mac users regarding the registration process as well as how to set up
one's Mac etc.It did take quite a few e-mails and phone calls to
eventually get the right info...(Maybe a "Set-up guide for dummies"or
something like that would have helped as the installation Cd couldn't
run on my Mac Laptop....?)

Even though Sentech Support did respond promptly to all my e-mails
during the set-up process,i could not help getting the feeling that
some of the technical support staff members were maybe "uninformed"with
regards to Mac.

I am certainly no computer expert so,maybe it is not for me to judge
them but i do feel strongly about the fact that Sentech as a company
should make provision for Mac users on their website, software
installations etc.as well as hopefully,(if not already...mmmm,being
hopeful here....),train their staff(retail as well as technical
support), to deal with most technical problems that their customers are
generally experiencing, whether it be for PC or Mac offcourse.....

At the risk of maybe adding more "fuel to the fire",i just wanted to
bring these thoughts of mine to your attention in hope of better
service for all Sentech Customers in the future....

Regards,

Interesting email. Short of quitting Sentech and finding a new ISP, is there
anything I can do?

Also, please put me on your mailing list. Please use my home address, not my
work address.

is anybody else concerned about the "soft limits" mentioned in

http://www.sentech.co.za/index.php?name=Forum&file=viewtopic&t=66

i don't think i use that much anyway, but one of the reasons i signed up was because of the unlimited volumes

Well, according to what I can see, I'm capped to 64k almost 12 hours out of the day, and 128k for the rest (this is international) I'm on the 512k package, local speeds seem to be okay, better if you're on saix or whatever, anyway...

If you work out, if I were to download constantly at the current speeds I am getting, I would be downloading average 40 gig, which is their softcap for 512k users. So I think they're enforcing this, because if you work out, 128k users claimed to be capped to 48kbps, which means that if they download constantly, they'll hit average 10 gig

These figures assuming that you have a day or so downtime.

Hell, my gran on a scooter with a memory stick is faster than Sentech's MyWireless!

Now that we have rationalised it to ourselves that spam is actually OK if it serves a good purpose (well real spammers also believe that it serves a good purpose as it makes money for them), I just had this crazy idea. Why not go the whole hog seeing that we now officially are spammers. We get hold of the e-mail addresses of all South African internet users and we send them all a spam email with the heading CONSUMER ALERT, and then send them more or less the same content as our spam letter to the 3000 Sentech customers. This will make Sentech sit up and notice because it surely will have an effect on their signing up of future customers.

Well just a thought heheheh.

clivedoubell: I think that is an awesome idea...

I mean we Sentech users know the downfalls of the current network but there are a lot of unsuspecting public out there who wouldnt know and will fall for the false advertising on sentech's webpage and told by their sales people.

Here's an exercise to do while you waiting for an International download.

Phone sentech and 'pretend' you are a new applicant and enquire about their state of service and speeds. Its a real laugh... Okay they mention the contention ratio and how 'sometimes' you might get low speeds but they say on the general they have fixed ALL bandwidth issues and a MyWireless 128k will out perform a 56.6K modem...

Yeah... then you break the news to them that you ARE a sentech user and hear the dude stammering and realising yuo have caught the bastard lying through his teeth.

I am sure this is going to completely blow up soon in the press and Sentech will be forced to make a decent decision regarding their service.

I think the only thing they can do is reissue new contracts and drop the price we pay monthly... regarding eveyrthing else they try it is not working... or is just downright insulting to us the hardworking customers of Sentech...

yup... sentech I think are going to feel the preassures of consumers getting angry soon.
