Please do, Adam ruins everything is not the best, entertainment more than anything else. Cherry picking topics and sources to fit the "ruins" narrative.

So going back to "that chart is not creditable". It's a fair comment that pretty much spans across almost every measurement throw into the publics face. Most times weights are arbitrary because there are far to many subjective considerations to factor in. Assessing performance across cultures, materials, skills, starting and ending skills etc etc is very much impossible. So, someone decided on some arbitrary measurements.

According to those arbitrary weights, we are nose diving.

if as per the HSRC the brain drain has been happening way before 1994, then there should not have been any upward positive movement in that graph, it should have been one long gradual fall.

the fact that you concede the weights are arbitrary and there are many subjective factors as well as corruption amongst the universities suggests theres not much credibility in that graph

Pretty much. Graded systems are flawed, open to corruption - the world runs on them, and they are only important because generally speaking everyone is really lazy or to busy to care, and a single number is all they want.

And that number from UTC is taking a dip in the past year because we, although not 100% certain, attribute it to these actions.

What is my narrative? Lets clear up what we are talking about.

you may wonder why the UTC takes a nose dive now, but were you wondering why it was not taking a nose dive previously? everything was fine before the current state then? how would you define the current state, when did it start?

It's the EFF SRC trying to be relevant. DASO swept the recent elections and are due to be brought in as the new council very soon. About 150 students or so causing all the chaos... a lot from off campus. Some of them came into my tutorial and told us we had to leave... They were a bunch a skinny guys wearing face coverings. Felt very awkward and they kind of just left us.

UCT campus vandalised after rejection of demands

Violent protests spread to UCT as chaos erupted after a group of students blocked entrances, slashed the tyres of buses and flung human faeces in a lecture hall.

Protests followed the angry reaction from students to the university management’s rejection of their demands handed over at a mass assembly on Wednesday.

Vice-Chancellor Max Price called the urgent assembly at the request of the outgoing Student Representative Council after a council meeting last week.

Price said six people were arrested – their status as students was unconfirmed following the blocking of entrances on the campus and the vandalism of buses.

Student activist Simone Cornelius said that students’ demands included a 0% fee increase to be pronounced by an emergency Council Sitting, before exams begin next week.

“What has happened on campus was a reaction to the university management’s actions and what may happen going forward will be determined by their actions.

The students causing these disruptions are in the minority, but 100 -200 students can create havoc if not opposed by other students.

Test cancelled as students protest at University of Cape Town

Protesting students had a brief stand-off with police as they disrupted a test and chased people out of a computer laboratory on Monday at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

UCT assured staff and students that the campus will remain open and all academic activities scheduled for the day will go ahead‚ but a small group of students moved through campus in an attempt to shut down parts of the campus. The university has obtained an interdict preventing students from disrupting classes or damaging property.

The group of protesting students had a stand-off with police officers outside a test venue. A policeman warned that they could be arrested.

PICS: UCT on lockdown for exams

Cape Town - In scenes more reminiscent of a military quarantine than an examination venue, UCT's sports fields featured massive marquee tents ringed in by crowd-control permeter fencing ahead of examinations set to start on Wednesday.

Scores of security personnel in riot gear, some accompanied by guard dogs like Rottweilers and German Shepherds, maintained a heavy presence at the campus on Monday, even as a group of angry students traversed the narrow corridor between the fences leading towards the subway under the M3 leading to the institution's Middle Campus.

Access to the campus is being strictly controlled, especially in the light of weeks of violent protests.
