I have an i20, and it doesn't have factory RDS enabled.

I found this on the net:
Guys, Check out this, Its worked with all Indian Version HU, Even on mine. This is from one of our Guru Mr.Wildon at Team-Bhp.com

I was able to change my HU region to Europe, so the RDS feature was enabled. It's nice to see your Local FM station name too in the Display.

But i was not able to reproduce the combination until today for the benefit of others ..

1. Press and hold 1FF and then immediately press 4, release both the fingers ,then press 1FF Four times as fast as you can.

2. Now you can see the display in MID as VER M58 S71 D29, immediately press button 6 so you can see your present region as General in MID.

3. Rotate the File/Enter/Tune knobe to change the region to Europe and Press/Push the Knob, now you can see the display as area changed.

4. Switch ON the HU by Press/push the Power Button and press the SETUP button, Rotate the File/Enter/Tune knobe and enable the features you want and press/push the knob to store the settings.

For Video please visit team-bhp.com and search for "i20 RDS:

Note: when you press only 1FF and 6 it shows a different Version display like
VER M08 S71 D29, in which you cannot enter the setup.

Has anyone successfully enabled it by doing something like this? Do you reckon its safe to do this - warranty reasons etc?

I've done it, my cars been back for two services without any indication that anything was wrong. If you installed new firmware and it went faulty I could understand them having an issue but all you're doing is enabling a setting that (stupidly) was forgotten in the first place.

i haven't done it but i can't see any issue in enabling a feature already built in, it is not like you are changing any hardware etc

Did mine also, first day I got it (already read up on the car before I bought).

No problems so far.

Which i20 you got? (Colour, engine, extras?)

I've got a sparkle blue (metallic dark blue), 1.4, and I put mags on - didn't like the look of the hub caps.

Pretty happy with it so far - 13000km, no regrets!

Did you stick with 15 or go 17?

Ps what extra do you get enabling rds?

Do any of you guys have 17s fitted? Was thinking of going there but I don't want to increase the tire diameter much (I want the larger tires for the width) so ideally I'd like something like 205/40/17

If you have 17s, what did you fit?
Did it make the ride harder?

Nah, I only put regular 15's on. The regular tires are pretty wide anyway, but 17's would probably look good. Low profiles 17's.

I haven't looked if there's anything else that I've unlocked by changing the region to Europe, but all I wanted was the radio stations name to come up on the HU, I couldn't believe that in SA its not available in the first place. I'm not sure why they left it off...is it available on the higher end models (1.6 etc)?

I have 17's on, ride is slightly harder but still good, will check the size in the morning but it stays the same diameter.

Have a pic somewhere as well, will upload, dark grey/charcoal rims with a silver border.

Weird I haven't enabled but mine shows station names and song names if station broadcasts them.

Pretty sure you'd get scraping unless you rolled the fenders. Would look nice but couldn't justify the cost.

Scraping?

I have seen that before

WFT, really? What model/year is your?

Mine doesn't even have RDS printed on the plastic of the radio area itself, so thats why i had to unlock it in the firmware.

2010, got it around June/July

And that reminds me I need to still check tyre size :o

Take it in, mine is going Monday for one or two things.

If you read the Hyundai forums some guys had their cable replaced and now fine, another guys solution was to reroute the cable over the air intake pipe.
