A word of warning for torrent users. I often use Fenopy to search for torrents and have never had any problems. However, twice in the last two weeks my Bitdefender has reported the site trying to install a trojan, (Trojan.Dldr.Stration.A, I think), on my PC.

Anyone else had the same experience?
 
The only decent torrent site I know which is about 99% malware free is TorrentSpy and TorrentPortal. I don't use other sites as they are usually corrupted and full of nasties. Did BitDefender report the website itself trying to install that Trojan or did a torrent contain it?
 
The webpage was still opening when BD reported a trojan installation attempt. Basically during the phase when cookies are loaded. I have used both TorrentSpy and TorrentPortal but find that Fenopy have just more torrents and is more active wrt sources available. Never had this problem before though. Maybe I must give it another bash and see what happens. Will post the results.
 
I personally use Demonoid for my torrents, they have a lot of seeds so my download speeds skyrocket to about 1KB/s :p

BD has blocked the virus wara wara.....

Something I should add - I use the FireFox add-on "TorrentFinder" to search for torrents. But the "trojan" only appears when I use the Fenopy link. (Although I haven't checked all the other links.)

According to Bitdefender.com the "virus" spreads easy and fast but damage is low. Basically an 'ad-popup'. BD disinfects it, I am sure most AVs will.

Today I had the exact same trojan variant trying to install when browsing rapidshare forums. :D

Yeah, it executes itself through popup ads, but BitDefender blocks it so luckily your PC won't get infected. I would continue to use that site if I were you, since it's a popup add that had the Trojan and not the website.

You definitely should! BitDefender is rated as the #1 AntiVirus product of 2007, with Kaspersky coming very close to it in 2nd place. It's difficult to get hold of Kaspersky though, and I have no idea what the cost it. For R350 you can get a 1 year licence with BitDefender, or a 2 year licence for R100 more.

It's a very effective solution which I use to disinfect PC's and definitely recommend to customers. :)
