Fewer Pack for Perth

Well, that is your anecdotal evidence; the point of the original MoneyWeb story was that a few thousand of our fellow citizens followed through with their threat of leaving, and that those thousands were mostly well qualified people, who so experienced little trouble in getting into Australia --- exactly the sort of people that we can ill-afford to lose.

What I was saying is that migration is a global phenomenon, affecting many countries in the world, and while we lose a small amount of skilled people from South Africa, there are many more comming in and bringing in skills and professionalism needed, not to mention those that are being educated and skilled through universities and various other skills development programmes in the country.

I will not hold it against anyone who emigrates for financial or growth reasons, in fact a number of my friends have moved out of South Africa, mainly for the money and experience.

What is totally wrong in my view is that a small minority in this country, attempt to use the migration of South Africans as a political bargaining chip.

No argument there.

Well, no. That's the point: we do have a net outflow of skilled people, and we are having a great deal of trouble attracting new talent. These facts are acknowledged by the very existence of JIPSA (a very good idea in principle --- I have no idea how well it is being implemented). The ageing of skilled artisans is particularly worrying.

And how exactly are they using emigration as a `bargaining chip'? Every time white South Africans do protest --- generally about trivial things like crime --- they get told (and this one is a direct quote from our terribly overqualified Minister of Safety and Security) that they can

Not very much subtlety there. Not very much bargaining power on display there.

The fact that the bargaining chip they are holding is not very valuable, does not detract from the fact that they are using it

Well, again, no: people who are really going to go are well beyond the bargaining stage. They. Just. Go.

In any case, people still on the fence are quite inured to a situation where apparently everyone (from government ministers to peons in internet forums) is cheering their forthcoming departure.

luister as oom praat : I didn't say the ones who are leaving are using it as a bargaining chip, most leave for money and experience or they believe they will live a better life.

There is a small minority ( politicians etc ) who use (or try to use ) the fact that people are leaving as a bargaining chip.

Okay, back on topic: does "Fewer Pack for Perth" mean that fewer are "packing" or that Australia is making it more difficult to enter the country on a work permit. I'm all for New Zealand if they'll give me a home!

Quite frankly, `Oom' is incapable of writing a coherent sentence, so discerning oompie's meaning is only slightly easier than the decipherment of Linear A.

Let me put this simply

If you don't understand english, do not blame my writing

or

If you can't argue my point, don't say you don't understand it

Or more likely, the number of white South Africans able to emigrate is getting less and less as most have left already.

If 10% leave per year, obviously the "numbers" will go down.

I think that may be the relavant issue here.

This is what gets me, is it only whites leaving the country ? - is the problem the exodus of skills or the exodus of whites ? for the latter, Government can not be blamed, for the former

The United Nations estimates that there are over one million legal immigrants in the country, looking at South Africa's immigration laws these are skilled or professional people

or that Australia is making it more difficult to enter the country on a work permit.
I don't think they are making it more difficult, but they may be fine tuning the process. They did recently increase the required minimum english proficiency and lower the points they award for the minimum required proficiency, but at the same time they added bonus points for demonstrating a level higher than the minimum requirement.

If you don't understand english, do not blame my writing.....

and

No, seriously, your acquaintance with basic English grammar is slight......

Guys, you are doing little else than showing your lack of maturity. Why don't you meet for a pint after work and sort out your differences?

Please just take it elsewhere, this is not the place.
