ive had this uno for about 2 months now , 67k on the clock . The thing is when i put it in reverse, it seems to scratch a bit, sometimes more, then i quickly and gently glide it back into N so that it doesnt scratch the disk then i try again and it goes into R easily. 1st gear sometimes randomly simply refuses to go into first when on stationary and its frustrating... my dad said id have to release the clutch and try again , something to do with being an old car ?

i dont ride on the clutch or drag race or things like that so further more the car has been handled very gently since its only a 1.1:D:confused:

Could it be the cable ? she is due for a service on 70k sigh

should have done it on 65k

I have a similar problem with my 2005 Renault Modus.

Just put your foot down on the clutch in N, then release, then put your foot down on clutch in N and move to R. Works for me.

It could be a clutch problem but for safety sake check the gearbox oil.

thanks for the tips , i tried that a week ago and it did work . this morning the car didnt want to go into any gears unless the car was off. the AA is on its way .... yay ... or not .

the gearbox oil is fine , checked, its a hydraulic type clutch and it looks like the pressure type thing just above the gearbox where you can see the arm of the clutch move , looks like its leaking a bit so it might just be from wear and tear sigh.

The gearbox itself is in good shape though. This is why i hate cars lol, bought it second hand from an old guy who gave the car a service with the slips as proof from 10 years + logbook.... Note : no slips of doing the clutch and atm i want to punch him on the left eye:p

How much is this going to cost now sigh ? its like middle month :/ already putting up games for sale on gumtree as im saving for a full service thats 6 months approx away

i have same problem with my mazda sting when stationary its hard to get into reverse or 1st but when moving its easy. Taken to garage before and they can never find a problem its like crunching noise. Have same problem with handbrake lol sometimes never holds on hill not sure if these are related though.

R500 later it was fixed about 20 minutes ago. It was just the Clutch Master hydraulic rubber that was a bit worn and inside that mechanism it was worn a bit too. They replaced the mechanism and bled the clutch until it was all good, they said the gearbox was still in very good shape almost new.. So The guy who knows my dad fixed it for me , he works at the BP station at queensburgh. Thumbs up to this guy he did a nice job and explained to me whats going on where aswell.

i also have the same handbrake problem but i just use my brakes anyway and when parking at a mall or somewhere stationary i make double sure the handbrake catches before i leave the car. it happens randomly so i have to pull and release about two times. It is due for a service anyway

Thanks going to try get Clutch Master hydraulic rubber checked hope its works for me also

goodluck mate ! just forgive me if the incorrect name was given for the device its a > Clutch slave cylinder . but ja just ask them they should know

My 1100 Uno refuses to go into 1st gear. If it's switched off all of the gears works fine. If I somehow manage to get it into gear, the car jerks and sometimes just switch off. What can the problem be? It's very frustrating. It is a 1995 model..

Master or slave cylinder. My 1995 1100 did the same, had the master cylinder replaced problem solved.

I had my master and slave cylinder replaced. Parts and labour were just over R2k so it was pretty expensive. :(

Not sure if the mechanic really needed to replace both though.
