Have you tried Vumatel's website? Sure there might be other, cheaper providers, but Vumatel is the only one that seems to make it easy.
In Protea Valley, Door de Kraal and Van Riebeeckshof we had great success with them. A few of us residents came together in Jan or Feb this year (can't exactly remember) and worked together to try and make our neighbours aware of the Vumatel website, so they can also register. This is also much easier and simpler than walking around with a piece of paper. When you register, you can also tick the box to become an area champion.
We also ended up working with one of the Vumatel representatives, he supplied us with flyers that we then dropped in mailboxes around the neigbourhood (they also use students to do that, but we also wanted to participate).
Needless to say, we got together end Jan/start Feb, and they'll be starting their trenching next week.
It can be done in a relatively short time, good luck.
