I have accidentally pulled the patch cable out of its sleeve (plug) from my hEXs ethernet router. My ISP is now quoting me R5500+ to have it repaired. The quote includes 5 hours of testing, a new scoop fibre distribution box, a new patch cable and sundries. Does this sound correct!?

Which ISP is that?
You should be quoted by the FNO directly after your ISP has logged a fault with them

Just buy a new patch cable. They cost about R60.

Edit: no it does not sound correct, they are taking you for a p**s.

Who's the ISP and the FNO?

Can you please post a picture of the setup from the wall box to the Mikrotik?

I've seen those white fibres before, but they're normally custom made for when the client's router is very far from there the fibre terminates in the property.

It's a local company - I would not like to name them here since the matter got resolved after I had a meeting with the new manager. In the end it was a partly a miss-communication from their sales department; the installation got done by making use of patch cables (no special tools were needed in order to make up the patch cables) and also the original instruction/training from the previous owner of the company was not that clear so I got quoted too many hours for the job.

Yeah, it was a "training" issue with staff in how to quote on jobs. In the end I got hold of a free-lance technician who did the job for me in a few minutes costing me only R800.- all included. (call out fee, labour and sundries)
