Good morning all reps

Apparently we have a fibre link running a block (or two) up away from our house.

In our street there are two households interested in obtaining fibre, ourselves and a neighbour of ours.

We are zoned for LTE, but it will be nice if we can have fibre rather.

Is there any company willing to prepare a quotation for the installation of fibre to the two residences?

For privacy purposes I will send the physical addresses via PM should a rep or two be interested to see if they can assist.

Regards

Who does this link belong to? That should probably be the first people you query.

Sadly a fibre link running right past your house means nothing in and of itself. There is a DFA link running down the road behind my house, between 30m and 250m from my house, depending on how you look at it, but the closest DFA node is almost 7km away, so no real use.

Also, 2 houses in a street is unlikely to get any provider's attention, unless you can convince them that both you and your neighbour are willing to fork out significant amounts of cash for the civil work, and even then I think you'll be hard pressed to get a positive response.

What area are you in? If you're in Pta, Jo'burg, Cape Town or Durban, I recommend signing up on Vumatel's website, and encouraging as many neighbours as possible to do so as well. For another provider, you'll most likely have to do a lot more grunt work in the form of actually printing signup sheets and getting as many people as possible to show interest.

As I understand it, you generally need half or two thirds of the neighbourhood to show interest before a provider will consider it. If the neighbourhood is small, you might need to include two or three neighbourhoods around it, to make it a worthwhile business case for the provider.

Ah, thanks for that, appreciated :)

Contact http://www.sadigitalvillages.co.za/ - they are creating 'nodes' and installing infrastructure into suburbs

I used to use SADV in the estate where I lived, using DFA infrastructure. When I moved, I found DFA fibre running right next to my house, with a manhole within 3 meters of my wall. I contacted SADV, and was told they would not be willing to install fibre, since they currently concentrate only on estates.

Admittedly, I don't know whether that DFA manhole next to my wall provides access to their network or not, and SADV could not confirm or deny.
