Fibre contractors cause havoc

I mean yeah, the problem is that they're fecking idiots.

Had them trenching outside the house these last 6 months. I was home. Knew what was coming. Went outside and told them to watch the piping and told them exactly where they were.
What happened? Still managed to hit the stormwater, the water, and somehow the boring guys broke the sewerage line.

The price of fibre, I guess.

The problem is as far as these guys are concerned, they have targets to meet and invoices for payment to be submitted and they dont give a **** what gets in the way or damaged or stays without lights or water, their (contractors) insurance can pay for it. One of the pre requisites when submitting a tender for a contract of this nature, is to have insurance.

The problem is that those mistake eat into their targets as they're responsible for repairs to, in my case, stormwater, for example.
I had a chat to the area planner when they came around since I'd found out who it was and betched about it.
Even the planner was like, yeah these guys are morons but we have to since otherwise we can't work the area.

The Municipality or subcontractors do the work to repair the infrastructure and (sometimes), bill them accordingly.......all they do is pass it on to their insurance to deal with. Far easier to damage something if it's in the way, then it gets repaired and rerouted straight away, than to wait for a planned re route that would hold them up time wise.

overseas, they have 1 dude operating this to install Fibre, and its done in 1 day.
no messing about 100 times with 20 dodgy looking guys looking to break into your property.

So when old Josolow starts trenching for fiber bam they hit water/electricity. Typical city blaming other people for their horse s*** errors

This is why I'm happy my house was built after the fibre was already running past my erf. All the contractor had to do is trench to my boundary wall and run the fibre to there and then from there pull it into the house

Tbh, they are supposed to get routes of cables, water pipes etc etc from the Municipalities which are fairly accurate as they are compiled when the construction of the infrastructure took place. Any contractor digging on Municipal verges or servitudes are supposed to excavate proving trenches at regular intervals to ascertain if there are any Municipal services located where they want to excavate. Most of them dont, because it is too time consuming, rather get their insurance to deal with the mess, easier although not ethical.

In JHB I've only experienced the exact opposite - JHB water and city power guys ripping up the fibre lines and then being without internet for a week.

Not gonna happen, not at least in my town. We found countless pipes and cables no more than 20cm below the surface. You would cut the whole roads power and water off lol

I also question if the FNO's know where their fibre lines are...wayleaves say for example 1M from erf boundary and the FNO guys just put where they want...how they gonna find them later who knows

Maxwell said they didn't know who the subbies were and had to chase them when there was an issue, but surely the FNO needed wayleave original approval so the City simply needs to contract the main contractor which matched the wayleaves being applied for if there's an issue?
