Fibre Estate Monopoly

Being part of the Fibre committee for an estate I stayed at a couple of years ago, I can tell you that many service providers (I'm looking at you, Telkom) come in with tons of offers to the HOA / directors. It included great promises such as:
- helping with security (E.g. fibre to the cameras)
- potentially bringing the intercom/gate system onto fibre and voip ideas
- DSTV over IP (was a time when DSTV Premium were still the only solution)
- security and health emergency services (e.g. emergency buttons for older residents etc)
- billboards at the gates for notices and ads

All of course for exclusive access for x years. Which the other directors eventually signed.

I sold the place and moved out (not just for the fibre, wanted to move from a townhouse to a normal house).

Yeah, I was with TT Connect when that deal with SADV went down. We (TT) were competing for the business, and didn't really want it due to the complexity, I think that's why SADV included some "other" clauses.
 
I kinda want to give my 2 cents but also don't want to. HOA's, in general, are full of crap and I find it that they to some degree hold ISP's FNO hostage at times. Heard of and have seen blatant underperformance at times from villages that have been signed to a 5-year agreement. and it makes it quite sickening to see cause it makes it 10 times harder for an honest service provider to assist or gain a foothold anywhere because of these guys messing up big time in the estate they support. I personally would love to have 2 big estates under my belt and then that would be it for me, just need 200 homes and I can survive and my company can survive. My opinion regarding HOA's is pretty spot on, not had the opportunity to work with one that could agree on a common cause for the benefit of everyone.

Edit: It'd be cool if the estate had its own infrastructure laid out already and all I need to do is put a router in your server room to hand out IP's that way to clients' homes and I pay a % in rent for infrustructure.

if you're within Rains network coverage you should try them, or any LTE operator which is wireless if I'm not mistaken?

I had Rain in Joburg and it was 100% perfect on their 5g R999pm thing. Don't have it anymore because I'm in Durbs... now I'm with Vumatel / WebAfrica and FML it's pathetic and I'm on their R1399pm 1000/100 line... useless to say the least!
