Its amazing how people miss construe a question. At no time was it asked "should you or shouldn't you have DSTV", that's personal! The question was, would it be better to upgrade to fibre rather than replace tired coaxial as a form of cabling. Further, It was also asked, are there any benefits to go the fibre route! It has been rumoured that DSTV are going more the digital with faster downloads. I am sure we all know about steaming directly from a Router, that not the question. There will be DSTV for a long while to come as the rural areas all use dishes.
In my opinion
if you are planning on upgrading in a complex with your coaxial cables then it may be an idea to go the whole communal fibre route and so you can run off of one satellite dish. It would be a bonus for all the residents as all the units will have an already set DSTV jack that they can just connect to without worrying about the dish or cables and so is a nice little selling feature for the units
If you are thinking about doing it for a single household then I would say that it is not much of a benefit as you will still need your dish as you currently have it and I would imagine that the specialised LNB to transfer signal from the dish into a fibre optic cable and back out again would be a lot more costly than your normal LNB. I don't think you would have much of a benefit as the only cables you would be replacing is the coaxial cables in your house which will be cheaper than fibre optic cables.
