So I confirmed with the Huawei guys yesterday, they said all units in our complex will be live by the end of November.

*sigh

Only be able to get in January - still need to cancel my current provider...

On my 6th week waiting for my fibre installation... Don't get too excited when you see fibre is available on the coverage map.

So the Huawei guys actually finished Splicing my line yesterday. Now the long haul to wait for Telkom/OpenServe to finalise the quality check (which could take forever)...

*sigh* No Fibre for XMas... :crying:

They have not even started to install in my complex.

Does anyone have a contact to get fiber in to a complex?

Week no 7 - Telkom guy shows up at my house without calling or anything. Cleaning lady gets his number for me to contact him. Finally get hold of him, he asks me is my fibre working :/ I almost rolled my office chair laughing. He tells me he is only here to write a report about my fibre that is not working. Meanwhile it has not even been installed yet.

Also he mentioned there was a underground cable that was damaged and that has been repaired so now they can start installations again. Really hope this is true.

Thx jcheek!
Went through the thread and makes sense. Then I am good to go.
Now if they could only activate Jacques street!

Hey FF1024! Any news on Openserve FTTH activation(s) along Jacques Street ?
I'd appreciate it if you'd have a look here and comment in that thread ?
Thanks!

Hi jcheek

No fibre yet.
But spoke spoke to the technicians today and they they are still busy laying cables....
I see the fibre box on the old telkom poles on the golf course side, same pole where my dodgy adsl comes from.
But they said end Jan or Feb.
I am going for the line only axxess fibre.
And going to use my current vox fatpipe data.
Tested it on my brother's openserve fibre and works 100%.

On the openserve coverage map, since yesterday, my ADSL option has now disappeared and I am only covered for future fibre 100mb.
So it seems something is happening at least.

Hopefully soon!

My area is still in planned for fiber. Who do we have to buy a case of beer or two to get the ball rolling a lot quicker?

This is just getting more depressing. The installation into all the units in my complex is completed - this includes the termination box inside each unit. This was completed at the end of November last year.

And nothing. No final Quality has been done. No response from OpenServe as to when this will be finalised. Just nothing.

HI BradPM

Did you try and get in touch with one of the ISPs to get help?

Hi Carl,

I have contacted multiple - none of them seem to be willing to assist with finding out about getting the Fibre lit. Even though I have a list of people who are willing to sign up ASAP. Frustration levels are getting unbearable at the moment - besides the fact that I would still need to give my 30 days notice at my current providers to cancel my ADSL.

Hi Carl,

Got confirmation from OpenServe that our fibre has been lit. Now just the task of finding the best ISP...

Lucky bugger, I'm still fighting to get fibre in our complex. Openserve and Telkom don't seem to want to help at all. Enjoy the fibre.

HI All

I got some feedback from someone at OpenServe who I have been pestering since last year. Our complex (Plumbago) and other complexes in Moreleta Park were excluded as they did not have a letter from HOA (Home owners association) to grant access to the complex to do an assessment. OpenServe will be starting a new project in the next few days with the contractors. The contractors will have a month to come up with a plan to include these complexes and then it will be another 3 months for roll out and connectivity to the sites.

So all in all the complexes not included will be another 4 - 6 months before they are on fibre. It is still a long time, at least there is an action plan now.

I thought as much... but no came for the installation.
But I have heard it is not unusual for them to be a day or 2 late.
Anyone know what number one can contact to follow up?

FF1024, use the Telkom Fibre Help Desk to follow up - see here.
As always, it depends on the operator you get, but the last couple of times I've used them, they've been pretty jacked up.
