Hi

I noticed Fibre being installed close to the magistrates court, it looked like orange fibre cables, and there was a Bakkie with openserve on the side.

Is there anyway for me to get an idea if there is fibre planned for residential areas surrounding the magistrates court, and eta's ?

Thanks for any input.

Best way to find out is ask the guys working there.

They gave me a number, But either I captured it incorrectly, or they might have read it out badly. but by the time I found that out they were gone. I'll see if I can find them again.

They did mention another cabling running somewhere close, but trying to get the information if its within usable distance of my house is the question.

I assume that its not because there is no flyers, promotions or coverage options on any maps online. but it would nice just to get an idea if its coming, and a general idea of when

Interesting if they are installing on the coast margate/ramsgate, never thought we would get in my lifetime.

Only place I know that has is some of Shelly Beach, would although love some Fibre down here.

Any update on this @dxvapor ?

Nope - they seem to have just installed to the court, and f'd off. I got a reply from Metrofibre (Reached out to all providers I could think of, and they were the only to reply) stating :

We are planning to do a roll out in some parts of DBN, unfortunately we won't be able to confirm the areas at this stage. What we do suggest is that when you see our teams either trenching or doing marketing in you suburb please do an enquiry again.

which does not really mean much. Hopefully we get something in 2020 / 2021, or maybe Rain brings their 5G to us.

Yeah hopefully we get something soon because once copper is done there will be so much congestion when everyone is moved to lte.

I reached out to @TelkomZA and waiting on a response to see if we can get some sort of campaign on the coast. I don't think a lot of people realize we need to show interest on the openserve/telkom site to even be considered for future planning.

More than happy to join you with building the campaign, I think there will be enough interest once its in. but until then, good luck getting people involved.

additional update - I got a LinkAfrica team installing near the caravan park in Margate, Valley Road. I've checked their coverage map, they seem to plan to cover the entire south coast area, but no availability on ISPs yet. Sign up to get notified people!

LinkAfrica is Business only provider

I don't know, but I'm hoping at-least there is fibre available here. I would not mind.

As much as it sucks that this information might be a reality, we can "show Interest" on their site for consumer, Not like we would lose anything for that.

But As you mention, it might be in vein.

Hey, looking at their coverage map is the blue marked areas covered? Because when I enter my address an error pops up but just zooming in on the map my area is in the blue.

Umtentweni, South Coast.

Hey @Rayne,
I spent some time calling around the past few days, it seems like they have business fibre expanded here ,but they want a list of people interested in FTTH to release it here - so myself and @ronnie_94 decided to start asking neighbours for their "Interest" shown on a form we will submit to all fibre providers, if you are interested in filling your information and passing around let me know!
