Hi all,
I moved into a new place and the fibre installation was straightforward. But this new place has an installation I don't get. There's the fibre box and then this GTU with optical in and four RF outs. Now I have no idea where I connect my router. There's also an AP with a mitrotik switch thing but I don't see how that works without a fibre inlet somewhere.

Installation is as below. PS still waiting on ISP to advise but they're taking their sweet time so thought I'd ask here so long IMG-20220908-WA0001.jpgIMG-20220908-WA0005.jpgIMG-20220908-WA0007.jpg

I'm pretty sure the GTU box is used for TV, the fibre probably connects to a satellite dish on top of your building, but I might be wrong. Does the fibre box have any labels on it?

Considering the MikroTik is there it probably means there is an internet connection somewhere close by.

The fibre box isn't labelled that I can see. And yes the GTU appears to be used for satellite TV. The fibre box has two outlets and I'm told one is for TV and one for data.

Does the other outlet have a cable connected to it? The previous tenants may have decided to take the ONT with them in which case you might have some trouble getting connected.

Nothing connected to the other outlet. Suppose I could as my neighbour to let me borrow her ONT for a bit to test. Problem is the ISP and owner believe there's no need for ONT, but the ISP person was a call centre agent so wouldn't put too much stock in their understanding.

Well there needs to be some kind of device that converts the fibre to copper ethernet that your router can use. Maybe check with your neighbour to see if she has an ONT, if so then you can tell your ISP that their info is incorrect.

I don't think you would be able to borrow someone else's ONT because fibre providers usually have some provisioning config running on the device which is tied to your specific installation.

Yeah the neighbour has an ONT which they may not even be using so I'll try find out if I can use it for the nonce. I had a look when the place was being cleaned out before the current neighbour moved in.

the picture with the unifi and mikrotik is Bonkers, How is the mikrotik on? is it on? That injector looks like it's powering the unifi but what on earth is the mikrotik even doing? What area or building is this, welcome to pm me and let's see what the heck is going on. Do you have internet os what's the story here?

I have a hunch that this might be something other than what you think it is. BUT I need more information like a picture of the entire setup before I can give you my opinion but it is quite odd.
