Fibre is killing ADSL

Telkom should be replacing the copper lines with fibre.
But, we are talking about Telkom ...

Telkom IS replacing the copper lines with fibre. but obviously not quick enough for you.

So is Vodacom, Dark Fibre Africa, etc, etc.

Nope, not in my area. The amazing Telkom thought it would be a good idea to keep the copper lines and only install fibre to the curb for VDSL while knowing that Fibrehoods is coming to our area within the next few months. Very clever move Telkom...

Any kind of internet at the moment (outside of mobile) would be great right now. But yeah, we all dream of a day when FTTH in our neck o' the woods is a reality.

Fibre is currently only available for less thant 1% of the 1% wealthiest people in SA. The vast majority of population live outise the areas with access to fibre.
Even though ADSL speed at our exchange is 40Mb fibre is unlikely to arrive in my town because people are generally to poor afford it.
